One is, um, Prima Facie with Cynthia Erivo.

She is very, very good.

Um, it's interest- I mean, it's very obvious that it's been adapted from a play, if that makes sense.

All right.

Another movie, I'm going to pronounce it wrong, even though I've seen this word written many times in my life, but it's Latin, I assume, is Prima Facie or Prima Facie.

This is a film starring Cynthia Erivo that is, I believe, based on a play.

And it is about a barrister.

Oh, incredible, incredible stuff.

The other thing that I saw at TIFF that might contend for some things, uh, Prima Facie and Elsinore, both of which are not very good movies, but contain very, very strong, very attention-grabby lead performances from Cynthia Erivo and Andrew Scott Uh, Elsinore in particular is looking like he's a lock for that lead actor slot just because people want to give him awards, and they should.

He is overdue.

He should've been nominated for All of Us Strangers.

[laughs] But the thing is, is, is that after so many years of more interesting, more, uh, personal AIDS narratives, the tack that this one takes just feels very, very been there, done that.

And even in Andrew Scott's performance, like, he's very, very good, but I, to, to me it felt like he was sort of reined in by this screenplay.

Um, and Cynthia Erivo is a fucking powerhouse in Prima Facie, but that movie is going, and, and already has rubbed many people the wrong way because it is very much preaching to the choir.

No one who goes to see this movie is going to want to hear anything other than exactly what it's saying, and that kind of works against what the movie's trying to say and do in weird ways.

Cynthia Erivo is returning to the big screen this fall, and now we have our first trailer.

The Wicked star leads Prima Facie, a drama based on the highly acclaimed play of the same name.

U.S. release dates have yet to be announced for the film.

Are you ready for it?

Because they don't want people laughing.

They don't want people in the theaters laughing at the fact that TikTok is a sponsor of this film festival.

Because yes, it is laughable.

It is to laugh.

You know, I wasn't going to be a jerk, but this did seem like a very influencer-heavy iteration of the festival on a scale that I hadn't really seen in terms of people filming, walking into various auditoriums.

And it's like, you know, there's various different ways that we can get the words out for movies, so I don't want to dog on things too much.

But it did feel extremely...

And there was a whole – obviously there was a whole thing with like ticket prices went up.
