So let's talk about The Water Dude.

Almost every fictional team of superheroes, adventurers, or even villains has one.

And it's not just in the mini-comics.

In the Golden Books, Merman strikes again, getting the jump on the most powerful man in the universe and leaving him entangled underwater in some seaweed as he swims away with his prize, the Power Sword.

So yeah, you could say that he was pretty fly for a fish guy.

Anyway, it's in DC's three-issue miniseries in 1982, written by Paul Kupenberg and art by George Tusco and Alfredo Alcala, where Merman's world gets expanded, giving us our first real glimpse of his peeps, the merpeople, in the key to Castle Grayskull, Man-at-Arms, Teela, and Stratos dive into the Sea of Blackness in search of the Talisman, basically the MacGuffin of the whole series, and stumble into a luminous underwater city.

Um, and then they made Ixnay on the Hombre and, uh, Americana.

And Americana had, uh, Pretty Fly for a White Guy.

Right.

So, um, which was inexplicably a very huge hit the year it came out.

Due to the fact you appear so precious.

This is that pop punk that's starting to emerge in 97 because they're a big part of that too.

Cause when you get to pretty fly for a white guy, stuff like that.

So they're part of that change as well.

Dexter Holland directed the music video, his directorial debut.

And then they had this one.

But then the next one was Pretty Fly for a White Guy.

That thing goes ballistic.
