Preston M. Sprinkle

Now you and I followed so much of those, those kinds of critical theories and these activists voices that were being promoted by these, these groups like, uh, the gospel coalition, nine marks, uh, You know, the church planting organizations, you know, these these groups have all pushed this because the guys who had them came out of Moller's and Piper's and MacArthur's and other guys seminaries.

I mean, one of the big partners with Revoice came out of Master's Seminary, the Preston Sprinkle.

You've reported on him before.

These guys were all.

Um, and what I, I mean faith as like the development of, like, our spiritual maturity and theology, right? Um, I was telling ...

I was on, um, I was interviewing with Preston Sprinkle yesterday, uh, in his podcast, and I was telling him at 30 years old, so six years ago, in the pandemic, is when I learned that people have differing views about women pastoring and preaching.

I lived 30 years not knowing that there were other perspectives, because I grew up with female pastors.

That's all I knew.

We need to remember that the whole of Scripture values and elevates and honours marriage and those who are married and those who are single and the call to singleness.

Preston Sprinkle writes, Because here in 1 Corinthians 7, Paul, he doesn't put married people on a pedestal.

He says that singleness is a gift, using the same word he's going to use in chapter 12 for the spiritual gift, charisma.

And so he's actually valuing and elevating both marriage and singleness in this passage.

And can I say that we as Christians and the church maybe have done this disservice to the Lord by elevating things like marriage? Because what we are doing is elevating the gift above the giver and distracting people in their season as they seek what their gifts are in their lives.

Does that make sense? Preston Sprinkle, a brilliant, brilliant writer.

If you want to read some of his stuff, I would highly recommend.

But he writes this, to describe singleness as a rare calling is neither a common position in Christian history nor a plausible reading of the New Testament.

And a little bit older now, but still very good, is Kate Wharton's Single-Minded.

Livingout.org. Preston Sprinkle's Centre for Faith, Gender and Sexuality, I think that's the title, has some good pastoral papers.

So if someone's a thinking person and wants to dive into some of the deeper questions, I've found that quite helpful.

I have recently been helped by the pastoral papers actually at the Center for Faith, Gender, and Sexuality.

I think probably one I would point to is a book called Two Views on Homosexuality, the Bible and the Church.

It came out about five or six years ago.

It's edited by Preston Sprinkle, and I think he has an introduction to it.

But what marks it out is, although it says two views, there are actually four different authors, two broadly different.

The net, as the kids say.

I was really intrigued by

this book and some of the interviews I heard with Preston Sprinkle and just wanted to do deep dive myself.

And not even halfway through the book, I told you, we've got to talk about this book on Clearly.

I am flying solo without my 5'12 wing woman today because Allie has the flu.

But I'm still really excited, not that Allison's sick, but because one of our vicarious mentors is on the porch today, Dr. Preston Sprinkle.

Allie actually introduced me.

to Dr. Preston Sprinkle a couple of years ago because his podcast, Theology in the Raw, is probably Allison's number one and has become one of my favorite podcasts.

And so she's just sick emotionally and physically, sick that she can't be here.

But I am so excited to have you here.

You have Preston Sprinkle talks about an eschatological event, how it's some kind of handle into this whole kind of what God is doing in Christ.

And then you could have a more kind of A more kind of a grammatical way of analyzing this genitive would be the qualitative genitive.
