Preston County

Tomorrow, you talked about the poverty simulation before.

Tomorrow, we're helping at a poverty simulation in Preston County.

And I'm excited because I, too, had that opportunity about 15 years ago at Allegheny County to do a poverty simulation.

And it was life-changing to have that perspective.

So I was really excited when I came across this story.

This took place in Preston County, West Virginia in 1929.

Now, Preston County lies in the northern mountains of West Virginia.

It's a place where there's old farmhouses, old coal tipples and long, long cold winters.

In February of 1929, a house fire near Terra Alta destroyed nearly everything inside except for one object.

It had been laying there, looking as if it had been placed there only seconds ago.

There was no evidence of flames, heat, anything.

In the Preston County Journal report, they said that the fire marshal examined the Bible and the table.

Barn was patterned after our Watring family barn.

It sits up in Aurora, West Virginia, Preston County.

And then that's where my ancestors came through, Abraham Watring, way, way back.

And so that barn's still there.

This is West Virginia.

Three people in Preston County have been arrested and are facing charges after troopers say they found an unattended child in the middle of an intersection.

According to a criminal complaint on July 6th at around 2.36 p.m., troopers received a 911 call regarding an abandoned juvenile.

I don't know what age yet.

Yeah.

Um, so, uh, actually, uh, Preston County, uh, their high school, the Preston, um, County Rising Knights, they have a country market where it's a, the high school has a student-ran, um, uh, butcher, you know, a butchering area.

And it's-

Oh, wow.

Like, "Oh my gosh, you guys have land that you can be on? Oh my gosh, you have places that..." Like, like a Coopers Rock or a Valley Falls, or just all these spots where you just kinda take for granted the beauty of this state and just how good it really is.

And I'm never gonna, um, forget where, you know, this state has given me a wonderful career, given me the opportunity to chase my dreams.

It, uh, gave me a, a wife from Preston County.

So it's just, this state, I'm forever in love with it, and I just, I just wish we got to share more with, uh, you know, out-of-staters of just, you know, how great it really is.
