Press Maravich

Again, just a hard-living steel town.

His high school coach was actually Press Maravich.

And if you don't know Press Maravich, Press Maravich was Pete Maravich's dad.

But it's just so interesting seeing this Polish-Ukrainian immigrant coming out of a Western Pennsylvania steel town.

He looked like he was carved out of steel himself.

His coach at Aliquippa High School would also attain great fame in the world of sports.

His coach's name was Press Maravich, and if that last name sounds familiar, it's because he was the father and coach in college of Pete Maravich, Pistol Pete Maravich, a legendary basketball player.

It just so happens that Press Maravich here was also originally f- from Aliquippa.

So he became a teacher and coach in his own hometown and during that time had Mike Ditka, future college and Pro Football Hall of Fame player, as one of his players.

Now, while he was there at Aliquippa High School, there was a team doctor named Dr. John Miller, and he took Mike Ditka and other players to Pitt football games, University of Pittsburgh, and encouraged them to play for Pitt.
