I'm Richard Ridge, and today we're diving into one of the most defining parts of your first year in practice, working with preceptors, charge nurses, and your team.

The title of today's episode is Working with Preceptors, Charge Nurses, and Teams, Finding Your Place, Your Voice, and Your Rhythm.

If you're in your first year, you already know this reality.

Nursing is a team sport.

But maybe it takes a while for you to appreciate that.

But the Vinaya and the way of practice and the teacher and the Upajjhaya, the preceptor, protect you when you're new to the practice.

Like the cage protects the tree and the string protects the tree from the ro- uh, from the wind.

In Thailand, they call the, uh, teacher or the Upajjhaya the Por Mae Kru Baja, which means both mother and father and teacher.

Usually, you have mom and dad who protect you when you're vulnerable and a baby and growing up, and they teach you things and give you everything you need and protect you from danger and weather and everything.
