Preamble to the United States Constitution

Forms the government.

The US Constitution starts with the words, "We the People." What does we the people mean?

Self-government.

Self-government.

But if you have neutral rules that are basically saying you can't spend more than this amount of money or you can't contribute more than this amount of money, the court should not be in the business of second-guessing that.

The reason they shouldn't is it's the only justification the court has for striking down a law of Congress is if it can point to something in the Constitution which represents we the people in a super majority way saying no.

So, you know, our Constitution stupidly says that there can only be two senators from every state.

Every state has to have the same number of senators and it has to be two.

There's no doubt that the framers understood what they were doing.

And there's no doubt many of them didn't like it, but that was an explicit part of the bargain.

So if the state of California tries to say, we want to send three senators or five senators because we have so many more people than the state of Wyoming, There's no doubt that the Supreme Court should stand up and say, I'm sorry, the Constitution doesn't permit this because we the people ratified a Constitution through a supermajority process and that Constitution expressly limits the size of senators to two for every state.

But where you've got something like this First Amendment, where it's clear that we the people never intended the language of the First Amendment to create this constitutional barrier to address the integrity of our political process.

Everybody does it differently throughout the country.

That's why it's bottom-up, because we the people are in charge.

And then we got midway, and there's a number of states that are well beyond midway.

I'll come back to that in a minute.

But there was a statement made and agreed to by the Congress assembled in Ephraim, Utah after the, um, president was lawfully elected, and after they held the Congress, where they said that each state's representation is five positions.

Those five positions are a facilitator or moderator, a scribe or an implementer, a justice, one senator, and one representative, and that's where that redeemed crimson square, it comes from on the map.

That's very important because as we assemble them, per second part, Article 5 of the Constitution, when we get to 34 states, we can hold and schedule the Congress, or Continental Congress, or the Convention of States, depending on how we decide to do it as We the People, and we're gonna have the third Convention of States or Continental Congress in our history.

And the beauty of that is that we're, we're well on our way to that with these redeemed states.

And fair enough, no one spoke more at this convention than him.

So you can thank this one-legged Don Juan for the eloquence of the Preamble that begins, "We the People." The draft is finished around September 11th.

September 12th, only days away from finishing this four-month convention.

Virginia's George Mason raises a point.

He also sat on the nation's first Supreme Court.

He put the words, we the people on paper, but when he died in 1798, there was no obituary, not a word from a single national leader.

He's also the only Supreme Court justice in American history who ever saw the inside of a prison cell, twice, before he finally went into hiding.

That same summer, in that same room in Philadelphia, sat a self-taught Connecticut lawyer who never spent a day in college.

He's the only founder who signed both those documents and served on the Supreme Court.

He literally wrote the first draft of the Constitution the summer of 1787.

He put the words, we the people, those immortal words at the beginning of the Constitution.

He inspired some of the most memorable and important lines of the Declaration of Independence.
