Addressing the parliament in Strasbourg today, Carney made the case for a stronger partnership.

But Canada says it's not sold on that title.

[upbeat music] Well, as Canada wraps the first of its kind investment summit, Prime Minister Mark Carney made the case for inviting private investment in Canada's major airports.

We need to be smart with how we use the assets we have.

So hundreds of the world's wealthiest investors have descended on Toronto, bringing with them more than $100 trillion, with a T, in capital to maybe, maybe spend in Canada.

Um, I would note that some of them are swapping some tariffs for other tariffs, so the aggregate's not there.

The US has responded to Canada's counter-tariffs with its own retaliation.

Canada's retaliatory tariffs against the United States took effect early this morning, more than two weeks after trade talks collapsed and the US escalated its trade war.

Now, Canada is waiting and bracing for more escalation from the Trump administration.

... to see whoever's in office, and potentially all of our leaders, to now maybe try to expose and make that a core part of our political culture going forward, which could have maximal benefit to, to all of us in this country.

Just last week, the Liberals swept three federal by-elections, keeping their seat in the British Columbia riding of North Vancouver-Capilano, and keeping a Liberal seat in the Toronto-area riding of Beaches-East York.

But the big story is the Quebec riding of Chicoutimi-- Le Fjord, where Liberals flipped a Conservative seat.
