Poverty porn

And there's a term for this type of content, by the way.

It's called poverty porn.

So whenever I see videos of these self-proclaimed broke moms on TikTok begging for views, it reminds me of these TV game shows that I grew up watching.

And mind you, this genre is still alive and well on YouTube.

Okay? Like, it still drives a lot of traffic.

And I think we all got a glimpse of how social media really is the last social safety net when you think about it, and this was made apparent when MrBeast made this video donating eye surgeries to, like, 1,000 people.

A lot of people were criticizing him for creating what is essentially poverty porn, but his video also highlighted the need for affordable healthcare because why is a YouTuber giving away these surgeries that better-equipped and better-funded institutions should be giving to their citizens? And the parallels are so heartbreaking because we call ourselves the greatest nation in the world, and yet we have our mothers, the very women birthing America, begging for dollars on the internet.

It's absolutely atrocious.
