Poteau

Elsewhere around the state, um, two huge games in 4A.

Four that I'll have my eye on just to s- maybe what could happen later on is Poteau at Stilwell, Sallisaw at Ada.

Mm-hmm.

That'll start to, uh, kind of get an idea of maybe who-

Mm.

Poteau's field was terrible.

It was patchy.

There'd be bald spots, so it was like you had a clean surface, then all of a sudden...

Mm-hmm

... like, you don't sink in the grass.

Poteau and, like, Sallisaw, it would be patchy, and then your foot would go, like, the grass would cover your cleats.

Like, it's so thick.

Of course, the ranching operations were started in nine- about 1940, and, uh, with two divisions, one in San Antonio that we call the Broken X, and then another ranch at, at, uh, little town of Catarina, southwest of Cotulla in South Texas.

We had those two operations until about 1985, and the ranching operation in San Antonio sold, and we acquired a ranch at Poteau, Oklahoma, and two more ranches at, uh, at south of Cotulla, and a big ranch here at, at, uh, South Victoria, and we've expanded over the years.

Of course, we've been through a number of droughts and whatnot, but it- it's been a challenge.

Uh, my whole family was raised here at the, at the ranch.

And they, and they probably got considerably more rain than we did.

Uh, Oklahoma, uh, like Idabel, which isn't far from me, as well as, like, on the other side of the mountains, like up in Poteau and stuff, they got a lot more rain, and that's really not, as the crow flies, far from me at all, and they got a ton of rain.

Well, Dallas supposedly got a fair amount of rain, so that's, that's absol- Look, I'm...

Which state claims to have the world's highest hill? The answer, Oklahoma.

Kavanaugh Hill near Poteau rises 1,999 feet above the surrounding terrain, just one foot short of a locally cited threshold for a mountain.

Its name comes from a French word meaning cave.

One foot short, talk about a technicality.

The next three are 2-1.

Hildale, McLean, and Poteau.

And at the bottom is 8-0-3.

That didn't even look right.

Right.

Poteau might have the most impressive victory in this district with a win over Grove about a couple weeks ago.

And everybody likes Grove, too, in 4-3-3.

Who knows? Could be a rematch in the playoffs.
