Postbridge

Fume had his charm shop some way from the village, and often hid himself there for days at a time, because it is no good being a man of mystery if you don't keep it up and do mysterious things.

So he built a special hut down by the river Dart at a place called Postbridge, and he went there twice a week to make charms.

And if there were a lot of charms on hand, and not much for the Lord Chancellor to do, and not much for the doctor, he went down to Postbridge three times a week and hid there, and nobody was admitted except on business.

All his charms were made of flint, for remember always that this was the Stone Age.

Fume got these flints from a long way off, and then with an immense deal of time and patience, he hammered away at them and chipped and chipped and chipped them into arrowheads and spearheads and other useful and necessary things.

Then Teddy went on, "But as a rule, when Father and Mother have words, Mother gets the best of it, don't you, Mother? Only this time, Father got the best of it, and he ate up all the tidbits of the dinner, and then off he went, because he said he wanted to pluck a crow with Mr.

French down in the valley.

He said he didn't see why Mr. French should be the leading man in Postbridge, and he wasn't going to stand it.

I did a bit of Tom White's journey from, from Huckaby.

So Tom White was a farm laborer, and he lived in Postbridge, and he walked across the moor over Bellever Tor, where Bellever Tor is, to Huckaby Farm to see his girlfriend, and he'd do, according to the story, he'd do this nightly.

And it's a journey of about five miles, which is a long way, and it's quite tough going over that, you know, over rough ground.

So I decided to follow his journey from Huckaby.

So this particular day in March, it's March 1921, he was deputizing for Dr. Helby, and Dr. Helby had gone to, ironically, he'd gone to, um, inspect the body of someone, like a farmer, I think, that, that had been killed in an accident.

Um, and he was on the way back from Tavistock with the daughters of the deputy prison governor in his sidecar.

So they're on the way back into or through Postbridge.

Or no, they were coming down Merripit Hill, sorry, into Postbridge, and he lost control of the motorcycle and drove off the road and went down into the ditch.

So, uh, this story, this is my notes right here.

It says, "It takes place in England, in the county of Devon, on the road in Dartmoor in Postbridge." And then I have a little thing going town, city.

Like, I don't know what is what over there.

So again, I can never make heads or tails where anything is at in Britain, so let's just assume this is two miles south of the Shire.

It's a fact.

So I'm just done trying to figure out stuff that happens in Britain.

But before I completely give up on that entire country, let's talk about the Hairy Hands of the country of England and the county of Devon and the road in Dartmoor and Postbridge.
