Continental Philosophy and Its Origins - Episode 11-19 w/ Thomas777
T

Um, and the depth to which this is existentially significant is something I think is understated, even a lot, even in a lot of contemporary texts that otherwise grasp the, the theory and praxis pretty well.
T
72:09Thomas777GUEST
You know, it goes beyond a priority of economic conditions.
T
72:15Thomas777GUEST
Again, economic conditions in the Marxian worldview or body of theory are quite literally the distilled essence of every relevant aspect of that society to human life, not just to political affairs.
T
72:38Thomas777GUEST
You know, and Marx's claim, what-- the way he fleshed this out was he said, "Look, the study of man, it must reflect mankind as he really is." You know, not based on an ideal conception of him or of his presumed potentialities or what constitutes the good in some abstract sense.
T
73:04Thomas777GUEST
You know, and he also considered it destructive to contemplate some pristine natural man, even as a thought experiment.

But what that's not is some soft liberal perspective or personality that's being curated, you know.

Um, it, uh...

You know, and of course, the conditions of production in any given epoch, that's what determines prevailing property relations.
The Four Swords of Marxism +1 w/ Bird From Timeline Earth - Complete
B
363:49BirdGUEST
Basically, after all of the classical Marxists die out, there's this, uh, a period of time where there are no new thinkers, and so Habermas arises as one such neo-Marxist.
B
363:59BirdGUEST
That's how that term is used, for everybody who's curious, is the post-Frankfurt School Marxists, who are still Marxists as opposed to what I contend Hoppe is, which is a post-Marxist, but we'll get to that.
B
364:11BirdGUEST
Um, since this episode is about Hoppe-

An Inhuman Future: Nick Land, Techno-Accelerationism, and the Dark Enlightenment
B
5:07Breht O'SheaHOST
Um, and Marxism is, I think, a core aspect in his thought even throughout, carried all the way through to, you know, his dark enlightenment and neo-reactionary politics of, of, you know, modern and contemporary times.
B
5:20Breht O'SheaHOST
At one point it might be said, not that he was necessarily a, a Marxist and certainly not an organizer, but deeply influenced by Marxism, deeply reading Marxism, and, and was in a sort of Marxist and post-Marxist and post-structuralist milieu where these core concepts that are embedded within Marxism were, you know, top of mind.
B
5:41Breht O'SheaHOST
And so Nick Land takes some core Marxist concepts, including a sort of understanding of capitalism, including a sort of dialectic unfolding of history, which comes out of Hegel, and takes it in a really weird way.

Uh, one, one of the literary ways that I've articulated it to myself is almost like a Lovecraftian inversion of Marxism.

it's because that they're uneducated and so they don't they can't like the woke right what you're seeing with it's similar to woke and the fact that you're having a lot of these I saw this in grad school I went to Humboldt State University in Northern California for grad school it's the most this was in my wife and I got in together for theater after we were doing theater and it was weird they let us both in the same program at the same time for our masters and The kids, the young, I hate using that word, the young people, the college students in that school were not as well read as we were when we were in an undergrad 10 years previously, and I know it's only gotten worse.
J
65:49Joshua RueblGUEST
Like a lot of these, and so when you have, I was in a critical theory class where they, because to save money, they would have some theater undergrads in the critical theory class where you're talking about Derrida, Foucault, all this post-modern, you know, post-Marxist kind of gobbledygook.
J
66:07Joshua RueblGUEST
And so when you're taking deconstruction like Derrida or the critical theory of Adorno, and you're going through these texts in the theater canon, looking for this hidden signifier, and the original intent of a lot of this stuff wasn't necessarily to debase the text, but have a new way of looking at the text, kind of turned into this cult.

So you have these young social justice warriors who have no idea where the critique of all this literature, this dead white male, all this stuff is coming from.
