Possum Bourne

We had a lot of rain during our warm up so we were actually quite fortunate that by the time we started it was still windy but the rain had stopped which kind of helped to start pretty well.

And Spencer Bourne gets the chance to follow in the tyre tracks of his dad Possum Bourne this weekend at the Ashley Forest Rally Sprint and expects to feel plenty of emotion when he straps into the blue and yellow Subaru Impreza WRX.

The big feeling comes from doing an event that my dad loved and he was successful at.

Ashley Forest and Race to the Sky were his two most favourite local New Zealand events and so to be able to do one is a bit of a bucket list really.

Dissecting the sporting agenda, it's Sports Fix with Jason Pine and Darcy Watergrave.

Well, we'll start off with a cool story, Stephen.

Spencer Bourne, Possum Bourne's son, is going to be competing this weekend at Ashley Forest Rally.

He's been working with Hayden Padden to develop his skills behind the wheel.

Of course, we've seen him do little bits and pieces here and there, and he's got the ultimate goal of competing at the Tago Rally next year, which is a real cool story i think for new zealand motorsport and it's great to see a famous name back out there on gravel but the big news the really really big news that has been announced is that race of champions huge international event is coming to new zealand shores in january next year really okay

... is racing this weekend at the Ashley Forest Rally Sprint in, um, Hayden Paddon-

But, but Dad just said that he was such a nice guy to be around and, and couldn't do enough for you, and was, was very generous in giving of his time.

Is he along the same lines of Possum Bourne? Somebody who was so popular with the fans and had to get deals done to continue their motorsport, and got those deals done, and therefore became just synonymous with the brand.

Yeah, you're probably right.

Um, Brock did drive a couple of other, other makes.

But I think you're right.

I mean, a- and certainly in terms of motor racing fans, he's the, the doyen of the sport in Australia, and his battles with firstly Allan Moffat and then Dick Johnson in, in Falcons were legendary.

And, um, yeah, he was, I, I suppose in the Craig Lowndes vein and also in the Possum Bourne vein, where, um, always so giving of their time to their fans and there was no autograph that was too hard to give, and no person that, uh, didn't want a photograph that got turned away.

So, um, Brock is, is missed to this day and it's...
