So there's plenty of housing outside the island itself.

Yeah, in fact, I stay at Long Island Village in Port Isabel.

I got a place where I'm actually on the board there as well.

But one of the surveys we pulled up, you know, we got a lot of people that stay in Port Isabel and Laguna Vista that do participate in the tournament.

So, and in fact, part of the surveys that we conducted this year, about 60 to 80%, so we'll say about 70% of those who are participating are more than 20 miles outside of the island.

So there's a lot of the law of people that come from out of town that participate in the tournament, which is awesome.

The more that they have, the more they can get.

And people now that used to be very pro-SpaceX, especially in South Padre Island, Port Isabel, and around that area, They're starting to see not just the effects of their, you know, their houses rattling or their, you know, their water compromised, the power also being like, you know, higher price and all these kinds of things.

But they're also starting to see that, wait, my voice has actually been fully suppressed.

There's nobody to answer for me.

Also, even more importantly, the wind along the coast is just about zero.

Everywhere I looked, I could not find, and I'm talking about looking all the way up through San Antonio into the hill country, all the way over to the Sabine River, all the way down to Port Isabel.

I could not find one station where there was a double-digit wind value.

Not one, not a single one.

And there was only one of them.

That was down close to, it was somewhere down south along the coast.

It wasn't quite as far as Port Isabel.

It might have been somewhere near Corpus, I think.

But if you visit the RGLNG construction project, you'll notice that it's a long way from the city of Brownsville, something Gage Davila wants people to recognize.

I think a huge point of contention that I've always had with both the media and with elected officials that talk about these projects in the Port of Brownsville, especially with regards to the Rio Grande LNG plant, is the fact that it's in Port Isabel.

It is not in Brownsville.

Davila grew up in Port Isabel.

He's now a reporter at the Texas Observer and says specifics matter.

No matter how many times the mayor of Brownsville or its former city manager said that this would benefit Brownsville, it is something that is in Port Isabel and is going to impact residents in Port Isabel more, just like it already is.

The Port of Brownsville will also reportedly soon be home to the first petrochemical refinery built in the United States in 50 years.

It's being built by a group called America First Refining.

Yeah, yeah, so we

moved to Port Isabel, and— We had this dump on the water, and he had his girlfriend there, and we had big light out there at night.

It was on one of the channels in Port Isabel, back in the Fingers.

And we'd fish for trout at night.

Well, some other surfer guys that were Galveston and Freeport fishermen, it was Ronnie Ray, and uh bingo cosby and cosby on the surf shop and ronnie ray was one of the hot you know surfer guys you know he was way ahead of us but he fished also he comes up in the story later on about fishing like

That went on at time, and of course, the surfing world, we went everywhere, you know, but we always fished, you know? I mean, we'd fish down in Mexico, and if we'd get somebody to take us out on a boat, we'd catch snapper and stuff.

A narrow but deep slough runs up into the desert land on the east side of the river's mouth and provides a harbor of refuge for the flat-bottomed stern wheelers which meet the ocean steamers at this point.

Hurricanes are prevalent at this season in the Gulf of California, but we had been fortunate in not meeting with any on the voyage.

The wind now freshened, however, and beat the waves into angry foam, and there we lay for three days on the New Bern off Port Isabel before the sea was calm enough for the transfer of troops and baggage to the lighters.

This was excessively disagreeable.

The wind was like a breath from a furnace.
