Pop Rocks? Fun Dip?

No, Dots.

Fun Dip.

For one thing, NASA didn't even make it.

Two guys named Bill did, and one of those guys, Bill Mitchell, also invented Cool Whip and Pop Rocks.

And it wasn't always quite as critically acclaimed as I always assumed.

So after the break, we dig into the history of this drink mix and how it became the unofficial space age drink of the mid-20th century.

We could thank him for many delectable-

I don't believe in God.

But you know, sillier things, um, I'm a child of the seventies, and so there was this urban legend that if you put Pop Rocks, they were like these crackly candies, and if you put Pop Rocks on your tongue and then drank Pepsi, like your head would explode.

[laughs] Or like either that or like your, your, you, you would die.

I, I mean, it was really lethal.

I had an idea.

W- you remember those Pop Rocks?

Yes.

Like, I was thinking, what if you did a drink at Willy D's and it had Pop Rocks on it, and it, like, it was a part of the experience.

Oh.

Like, you put the rocks on, and then you, like-

I will continue to watch you, especially as you have all of those brands from your childhood coming up that are also in my childhood.

In fact, I was thinking earlier, one of the childhood candies you mentioned, what you're doing in the candy segment, was Pop Rocks.

You remember those from...

I do remember Pop Rocks.

But no, I appreciate all that you're doing to keep these brands alive and to give them kind of a resurgence as they want to grow and continue to grow.

Yeah.

What else you got?

Pop Rocks and soda will make your stomach explode.

And somebody in the comments actually says-

I, oh, you know what? Yes, and that is not true.

Yeah, so-

I mean, I'm looking.

Probably the Pop Rocks one would be the easiest one-

We were traumatized by that as kids.

He says, remember when there was this thing about pop rocks and soda? If you combine those two things, they would kill you.

That was totally a thing.

Yeah.

Because there was a rumor that somebody had died from that.

They mixed pop rocks with soda and they just died on the spot.
