Shan MelansonHOST
46:40
But caging.
Shan MelansonHOST
46:41
So PVC, when I met Dom, I switched over to PVC.
Shan MelansonHOST
46:49
He was into that.
Shan MelansonHOST
46:50
but he was into building his own.
Shan MelansonHOST
46:52
So did a little bit of that for a bit.
Shan MelansonHOST
46:54
So I made my own PVC cages, um, built a few racks.
Shan MelansonHOST
47:00
So they were like, you know, two by, um, two by four or four by two by 18.
Shan MelansonHOST
47:10
And I did stacks.
RaganHOST
24:13
So Channel 4 has a story about a scumbag company that decided that they had stuff that was... you know, unusable.
RaganHOST
24:22
And instead of doing what a normal group of human beings should do, which is package it up, put it in thick plastic, send it off to the dump, right? Like you, you know, you dispose of it properly in places that are supposedly PVC lined, clay lined, whatever the case.
RaganHOST
24:40
These are flammable products, right? Yep.
RaganHOST
24:42
Instead of doing all that, scumbag company goes, yeah, just dump it out back.
Robert ZortmanHOST
15:40
Yeah, wires.
Robert ZortmanHOST
15:41
Yeah, wires, and then just PVC piping.
Robert ZortmanHOST
15:44
Okay.
Robert ZortmanHOST
15:44
Because it all depends on what they have to- You were a PVC kid.
Robert ZortmanHOST
15:47
True.
Robert ZortmanHOST
15:48
And I've got a saw.
Ron AlexanderGUEST
37:45
We did use PEX.
Ron AlexanderGUEST
37:46
PEX and PVC.
Ron AlexanderGUEST
37:48
Well, Chuck
Ken CalverleyHOST
37:48
and I can't say enough good things about Shelby Mechanical.
Brad CaldwellGUEST
2:33
I've driven or flown to the slate roofing training course, McElroy Metals School in Louisiana, a GAF TPO plant in Cedar City, Utah, GAF Expos.
Brad CaldwellGUEST
2:44
And I've also brought a certified IB roof systems trainer on my site to teach my crew PVC flat roofing.
Brad CaldwellGUEST
2:51
So the payoff is that we can do things that most local companies can't.
Brad CaldwellGUEST
2:55
We can do robot-seamed, standing-seam metal, barrel roofs, swoop roofs, flat roofs with full manufacturer no-dollar limit warranties, hand-formed copper roofs on curved barrels and swoops.
Brad CaldwellGUEST
4:48
Yeah, I would say two things.
Brad CaldwellGUEST
4:49
First of all, I noticed that architects are constantly trying to spec out TPO.
Brad CaldwellGUEST
4:56
It's a kind of flat roof material and instead of like PVC, but PVC really is way better leak prevention in our experience because the seams on TPO are a little bit, you know, suspect sometimes and they'll they'll leak in a little bit and and you know architects tend to think tpo is going to be a lot cheaper but really it's it's about the same price um so if you just go with pvc and you go with somebody that's trained in it like we are then you're not going to have any issues you can get that ndl warranty with it um a second myth is that you know metal roofs are too expensive and the thing is if you go with like a galvalume you can get a pretty decent price where you're you're it's still gonna be more pricey than shingles but you know it's gonna last 50 years also going to be very reflective so you're not going to be paying as much for air conditioning costs in the summertime so you're saving on that like over those all those years as well um so you know don't rule out the possibility of a metal roof
Susanna HodgesHOST
5:54
Right.
Graeme DruryGUEST
11:16
It has a core board and a decor and then a wear layer.
Graeme DruryGUEST
11:20
Vinyl's the same, except it's not wood.
Graeme DruryGUEST
11:23
It's made out of vinyls and polymers.
Graeme DruryGUEST
11:25
So it is different.
Gary McCreadieHOST
0:47
And we're talking, you know, best practice of install when it comes to gas vent pipe.
Gary McCreadieHOST
0:53
So one of the things that comes up when we talk about proper cutting of plastic gas vent pipe, like our PVC and our CPVC, is cutting it with the proper tool.
Gary McCreadieHOST
1:03
Now, there's a tool by Reed Manufacturing.
Gary McCreadieHOST
1:06
It's a plastic tubing cutter, just like a big pipe cutter.
Gary McCreadieHOST
1:26
You could leave all kinds of burrs and stuff.
Gary McCreadieHOST
1:28
There, IPEX is recommending a specific tool, and it's actually a cable cutter.
Gary McCreadieHOST
1:35
So you can get cable cutters that are basically a cable that are designed for cutting PVC pipe that you can get from a hardware store.
Gary McCreadieHOST
1:41
So just something to check out if you want to.
Stefanie CouchHOST
3:46
So tell me a little bit about how the product works and about what options you have.
Joel KoopsGUEST
3:50
Yeah, so we use the manufacturing process of PVC extrusion.
Joel KoopsGUEST
3:54
So PVC-based, we make our own compound in our factories.
Joel KoopsGUEST
4:00
And so we have two main products, which is our wall and ceiling board, that flat, smooth, shiny product available in white and gray.
Joel KoopsGUEST
4:08
And then we also have slot wall.
Dan MancinaHOST
28:16
Railroad tie.
Dan MancinaHOST
28:17
Right through the PVC pipe.
Dan MancinaHOST
28:21
This is like a million and one chance because...
Dan MancinaHOST
28:25
Or one in a million chance because...
Will FaulknerHOST
52:42
And she says, guys, the evenings are getting darker and the clocks change this weekend.
Will FaulknerHOST
52:48
But for some reason, when I come home in the evening, I see our dark brown, dreary PVC front door.
Will FaulknerHOST
52:59
in the light of the house, and it's actually starting to annoy me, because I can't stand seeing that every evening that I come home through the winter.
Will FaulknerHOST
53:09
So I'm thinking of painting it in a brighter, happier colour.
Will FaulknerHOST
53:13
But is it something that can be done, and can I do it myself? So, first of all, PVC door, would it take paint?
Brian CloonanPANELIST
53:21
Yeah, you can paint it.
Brian CloonanPANELIST
53:23
It sounds a little bit like, you know, the spot on the wall or the spot on the floor that no one else can see.
Brian CloonanPANELIST
53:34
So look, yeah, deal with it.
