Claire HarringtonGUEST
6:24
And then I ran cross country and track in high school and middle school.
Claire HarringtonGUEST
6:31
And I actually got into pole vaulting, which was actually my primary sport.
Claire HarringtonGUEST
6:37
And then obviously once I graduated college and was in medical school, I couldn't do that.
Claire HarringtonGUEST
6:43
That's not like a sport.
Claire HarringtonGUEST
9:23
So I, um, I loved, you know, running, obviously, even in middle school and high school, even though it wasn't as long of distances.
Claire HarringtonGUEST
9:37
But I had a coach that was like, hey, you look like a pole vaulter, whatever that means.
Claire HarringtonGUEST
9:44
And I started pole vaulting because, you know.
Claire HarringtonGUEST
9:47
When you're a high schooler and your frontal lobe isn't fully developed, you have no fear.
Kyle MerberHOST
14:49
in four [laughs] and two years, and which are we cutting? And I think high jump remains.
Chris ChavezHOST
14:55
High jump and pole vault are just always roulette when it comes, uh, to track.
Kyle MerberHOST
14:59
Yeah.
Chris ChavezHOST
14:59
You either make it or you don't.
Chris ChavezHOST
15:12
Was high jump there?
Kyle MerberHOST
15:13
I don't think so.
Chris ChavezHOST
15:14
High, well if, like high jump and pole vault should be on there, where you could pick the winners, but I think like live betting if they're gonna clear it, if they don't.
Kyle MerberHOST
15:21
Mm.
Hannah EnglandHOST
8:29
No, they were, it...
Hannah EnglandHOST
8:31
It certainly when you got to the end of stuff, so with the women's long jump yesterday, they were holding the, holding the long jumpers whilst they had a pole vault attempt, holding the pole vaulters whilst the next long jumper went.
Rich NewmanHOST
8:42
Okay.
Hannah EnglandHOST
8:42
Um, and that makes it easier for TV to show it live rather than show it recorded, and then in stadium you're only looking at one thing.
Rich NewmanHOST
9:54
...
Rich NewmanHOST
9:54
there was 100% a bit...
Rich NewmanHOST
9:56
I can't remember which, which height it was, but it, latter stages in the men's pole vault, we definitely watched a recorded version of one of Mondo's-
Hannah EnglandHOST
10:05
Okay
Christy LeeHOST
11:15
[laughs]
Pat GodwinPANELIST
11:15
I think my pole vaulting days-
Christy LeeHOST
11:16
How do you-
Pat GodwinPANELIST
11:17
... are over
Pat GodwinPANELIST
12:13
Yeah, it was great.
Christy LeeHOST
12:14
Okay.
Tom GriswoldHOST
12:14
But you've decided you're n- there'll be no more pole vaulting?
Pat GodwinPANELIST
12:16
There'll be no...
James TattersallGUEST
18:48
Anyone can have a go.
James TattersallGUEST
18:49
And I think if you were sort of rocked up and watched Pole Vault at the weekend, you wouldn't think, well, I might have a go at that.
James TattersallGUEST
18:57
You're just never going to do it.
James TattersallGUEST
18:59
But you might have a go at darts.
Jason RotgerGUEST
11:23
Like that was the best race of my life.
Jason RotgerGUEST
11:26
And then I started pole vaulting.
Jason RotgerGUEST
11:28
So this same year, so I'm 17.
Jason RotgerGUEST
11:31
So running parallel to
Tim RileyHOST
14:50
Yes.
Jason RotgerGUEST
14:51
Yeah.
Tim RileyHOST
14:52
So you start pole vaulting.
Jason RotgerGUEST
14:53
Yeah.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
14:56
I'm like, okay.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
14:58
And then he's like, but since you were a gymnast, you have to pole vault for us.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
15:02
I can learn pole vault.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
15:03
I can do that.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
15:05
So I learned how to pole vault and I learned how to high jump.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
15:09
And so I switched sports in college.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
15:10
And then the next year, well, that first year I went up to him and I, I just told him, I'm like, Hey, I don't, I don't want to just do this for fun.
Chelsea AtkinsonGUEST
15:29
So it was fun.
Gareth DaviesHOST
22:59
What else did we have at the Diamond Leagues? We had...
Gareth DaviesHOST
23:01
I noticed something, actually.
Gareth DaviesHOST
23:02
It was Corrales, the pole vaulter.
Gareth DaviesHOST
23:06
He cleared 6.20 for the first time.
Gareth DaviesHOST
23:08
I think he's the second person to actually ever clear 6.20. And I was thinking, this is great because Duplantis might actually have some legitimate competition now.
Ross TuckerHOST
23:32
If Duplantis isn't within 2% of his best, he doesn't win.
Ross TuckerHOST
23:38
which has never been the case, right, over the last four or five years.
Ross TuckerHOST
23:41
So there's suddenly more reason to watch pole vaulting because it's slightly less predictable than it was.
Anderson EmeroleHOST
27:41
I wouldn't be surprised if Toby gets close to her 12-12 once again, right? Anything can happen in these hurdles.
Anderson EmeroleHOST
27:46
Maasai just happened to be absolutely perfect today and really execute on all cylinders, have great conditions, have the momentum of Dos Santos, have the momentum of Corrales jumping 6-20, almost winning the pole vault.
Anderson EmeroleHOST
27:59
Obviously, Duplantis jumped 6-25, having the momentum of Julian, who we'll talk about in a second.
Anderson EmeroleHOST
28:04
All of that played into a race like this.

54 MINS LATER

Anderson EmeroleHOST
82:14
I'm going to come back to this Dambile conversation with everybody.
Anderson EmeroleHOST
82:17
But big shout out to the men's long jump with Tentaglou and Wayne Pinnock and Tajay Gale.
Anderson EmeroleHOST
82:22
uh holiden was in it for a moment i know he jumped this 832 on yeah in round four which shot him up a little bit but you know this was a good competition even though it wasn't like super super high quality um yes big shout out to the men's pole vault this was actually crazy there was a moment i was like yo is you know corral is gonna win but corrales with 620 like on his first attempt all clear all clear all the way up through 620 this was a big shock big big shock obviously he had jumped 617 he also jumped 616 um the other day in lausanne or whatever it was um this was a big shock but then mondo he gets out to 625 and it was over like it was that that was it there was a moment though i was like yo If Corrales actually beats Mondo, this to me would have been the first legitimate, quote unquote, all due respect to all the other athletes, but like legitimate loss for Mondo in the sense that no one has beaten Mondo by jumping six meters since 2019.
Anderson EmeroleHOST
83:18
That was the last time Mondo lost a competition ever.
RunnerBoiHOST
68:22
Uh, I'm trying to think.
JumpmanHOST
68:24
Um, pole vault was the best next thing.
JumpmanHOST
68:25
Men's pole vault.
RunnerBoiHOST
68:26
Where's that? Oh, yes.
RunnerBoiHOST
68:28
Dude, I was pissed this was, like, the day before, 'cause I, I don't even...
