The man who did that was in Port Henry on the same bay where Glenn was fishing.

In July of eighteen nineteen a man identified as Captain Crum reported that he'd been on a scow in Bulwagga Bay when he saw a black creature about two hundred yards off moving through the water at speed and the Plattsburgh Republican printed his account.

He said it was a hundred and eighty-seven feet long.

The head was shaped like a seahorse's and rose fifteen feet out of the water.

And in eighteen eighty-seven he offered twenty thousand and nobody collected on that either.

Barnum's money never produced a monster but it produced a lot of newspaper column and for a few summers the serpent was a regular item in papers from Albany down to New York City.

In July of eighteen eighty-three the sheriff of Clinton County a man named Nathan Mooney reported a sighting of his own near Plattsburgh.

He said he was on the shore with a companion when he saw a water serpent about fifty yards out with twenty-five or thirty feet of it showing and its head and neck raised five feet above the water and he described a round head and a mouth and said he could see the muscles working in the neck as it moved.

I protest.

The Plattsburgh idea has borne abundant fruit.

It has shown three things.

First, that individual training cannot be had in less than several months of field service.

A- and I play that because our next guest, uh, Jerry Douglas, who is president and CEO of the North Country Chamber of Commerce, ha- has a, uh, a press release op-ed, if you will, today, which, uh, just starts with remembering Gander on 9/11, lend a hand, do what you can, which, um, is obviously very, very welcome on a day like today.

But I'm trying to understand, uh, Mr. Douglas, w- why, why today? Uh, you're out in Plattsburgh, New York.

How does this day tie into you?

When the war came, both health and ingrained timidity kept him at home.

I went to Plattsburgh for a commission but never got overseas.

So the years wore on.

Edward's mother died when he was thirty-four, and for months he was incapacitated by some odd psychological malady.

2016, I got my first job in radio at 101.3 ESPN in Burlington, Vermont.

And we also were heard in Plattsburgh, New York, across the border of Lake Champlain.

That was 10 years ago, Sunday.

And I think about where my career has gone since then.
