Plas Newydd

It is exactly right.

In seventeen eighty, they rent it and rename it Plas Newydd.

In Welsh, that means new place or new hall.

A new place.

Over the decades, they turn it into something dark and glowing and strange.

A Gothic cottage with pointed windows and stained glass, with a carved oak porch, with every wall and ceiling and staircase covered in carved oak panels, old bedposts, church screens, chests, bits of Tudor furniture, anything with carving on it.

Visitors learn that the way to be welcome at Plas Newydd is to arrive with a piece of old carved oak, and they do, and the house fills with it until walking through the rooms feels like walking through the inside of an old tree.
