We all remember what happened back in 2023 with the floods.

in Planada, some of the other outlying areas, even the city of Merced.

I knew we were in trouble when I went to come to the station and water was running down the street on Glen Avenue.

I was coming down here for something.

Merced County knows what strong storms can do.

In January 2023, back-to-back atmospheric rivers flooded communities like Planada and McSwain.

I learned a lot, a lot that we can do to strengthen our relationships with all of our partners.

I don't know when the rains are gonna come but they will come eventually and And these El Ninos, as they call them, where the Pacific Ocean has warm water, evidently really attract these winter storms.

We remember the atmospheric river back in, what was it, 2023 when Planada flooded? That was a heck of a deal there.

And we don't want to repeat any of that.

I know there was some discussion at the city council meeting, the last meeting, about the need to have everybody on standby, working with the county, the different... organizations when it comes to potential flooding here in the valley.
