Zachary RuaneHOST
And he made a movie called...
Zachary RuaneHOST
His most famous is called Plan 9 from Outer Space, but his best, I think, is a film called Glenn or Glenda, where essentially...
Zachary RuaneHOST
He's just this very interesting fella.
Zachary RuaneHOST
He was also a producer on a movie that I've made Mish watch before.
Zachary RuaneHOST
Okay.
Zachary RuaneHOST
Older actors.
Zachary RuaneHOST
So Plan 9 from Outer Space, most famously, he shot some footage with Bela Lugosi before he passed away.
Zachary RuaneHOST
But then he only got a few pieces of footage of Bela Lugosi.
Thomas ShubillaGUEST
or what they're doing in the film, but they explain what's going on.
Thomas ShubillaGUEST
And I always say, the mark of a bad film, and again, before we went on the air, we talked about our love of Ed Wood and things, and Plan 9 does this as well.
Thomas ShubillaGUEST
If a narrator is telling me what I'm looking at, It's a bad film.
Thomas ShubillaGUEST
If I need a narrator...
Peter HarringtonHOST
It's going
FloraHOST
to be like Plan 9 from Outer Space.
FloraHOST
It's going to be so
Peter HarringtonHOST
awful.
Cory StrodeHOST
There are things that I like that are utter garbage.
Cory StrodeHOST
Plan 9 from Outer Space is incompetent on every level.
Cory StrodeHOST
High schoolers could make a better film.
Cory StrodeHOST
The script is bad.
ArnieHOST
Yeah, if we ever do it, I do have a personal encounter with Andrew Dice Clay's story to share.
ArnieHOST
Okay, Ed Wood and Plan 9 from Outer Space, either or both.
ArnieHOST
Ed Wood is one of the best movies ever made.
ArnieHOST
Legitimately.
HunterHOST
But I also like the format of the story where it's just like, it's like an old detective describing a case he came across, you know.
HunterHOST
And it's Plan 9 from Outer Space.
HunterHOST
That's what it is.
HunterHOST
That's it, yeah.
Shane MulvaneyHOST
I have a feeling that I know what film it is.
Shane MulvaneyHOST
It could be Plan 9 from Outer Space.
Shane MulvaneyHOST
Edward D.
Shane MulvaneyHOST
Ward Jr.
Justin DeclouxHOST
Mm-hmm.
Will SloanHOST
You know, it's a little bit like, I mean, not in any other way, except I was reminded of Plan 9 from Outer Space, just in the sense that it's mixing.
Will SloanHOST
It's mashing a lot of different elements, some of which are sort of traditional, some of which are very commercial right in this moment.
Justin DeclouxHOST
And so like the meteor lands blob style, a guy pops out of it, the Brainiac himself.
30 MINS LATER
Will SloanHOST
Yeah.
Will SloanHOST
Like more so than usual.
Will SloanHOST
And I thought, is this actually the perfect way to watch Plan 9 from outer space? Did you
Justin DeclouxHOST
ask if it was a small audience, if anyone had not seen Plan 9 from outer space?
Leif EricHOST
Which is an odd way of putting that.
Leif EricHOST
This movie is about Ed Wood, who is an actual director who lived in the 1950s and made a bunch of bad B movies like Plan 9 from Outer Space and some other stuff.
Leif EricHOST
He also made the movie Glenn or Glenda, which I don't know if you've heard of.
Leif EricHOST
But it was like an early film about like a transgender person who doesn't know if they're Glenn or Glenda.
JordanHOST
What about that mod witch? Well, at the time, the film version of the comic Barbarella was very big, and all of a sudden, the name Vampirella just popped full-blown into my mind.
KumarHOST
But you can't help but think of Vampyra, the horror hostess, as well, from the 50s that appeared in Plan 9 from Outer Space.
JordanHOST
Of course.
JordanHOST
Yes, so...
