Pittsburgh Crawfords

So it was a really big day for me when I found a game in 1935 when he was pitching for Bismarck.

He actually left the Crawfords for one summer and pitched for this team in Bismarck.

It was kind of a funny story because there was a couple of semi-pro teams in Bismarck that were like these arch rivals.

And this one team they hired, I get this wrong, like Chet Brewer or somebody to pitch for their team.

So Williams was pitching for the Homestead Grays.

And the Homestead Grays were the black team in black baseball, and especially in Pittsburgh.

And Gus Greenlee was just starting up this team in Pittsburgh called the Crawfords, and he signed Paige too.

At first it was independent, but then he signed Gibson, and he signed Bell, and he signed the super team.

Who did he play? Yeah.

They went to Pittsburgh Crawford in the Negro League.

What was the Negro League, Papa? You understand what I mean? It's a history.

It's a lesson.
