On Thursday night, Neil was replaced at the break and had to watch on as Derek McInnes' side were beaten by Jablonec in the Conference League.

On Sunday, he played his part in a Premiership victory that has raised the spirits and started to change the narrative around Rangers as Aberdeen were overcome at Pittodrie.

McInnes' side returned from Czechia and checked into a base in the north-east on Friday morning.

This time was put to good use on and off the park, and the benefits were seen as Lawrence Shankland netted the only goal of the game to give Rangers a crucial three points.

Given what was at stake for the men in the respective dugouts, particularly McInnes, after the awful European exit to Jamborik, it was understandable that many reflexively opined that the result was all that mattered.

Just a few hours later though, I was fortunate to take in a doozy of a ding-dong battle in Paisley, where two teams in St Mirren and Motherwell rattled off 45 shots between them, shared six goals, and tried for the most part to actually play some structured passing football.

It was almost like a different sport to what had been witnessed at Pittodrie.

It was thrilling.

I think when he looks back at that start to the season, I think he'll realize that it just came too soon for him.

I mean, if you look back at the defeat at Pittodrie, you're looking at two teams now, and you wonder how that happened really because Hearts have just begun to really get their act together.

Um, put Stonegate, put Benfica behind them, put Aberdeen behind them, and they look like a team on the, on the, on the up.

And I think what's really good and what's really timely and pertinent for us is that they did it last night with six Scots in the starting lineup.

I don't think that does anybody any favors, to be honest.
