Pishon

The river that flowed from the east of Eden, dividing itself into four.

Pishon, Gihon, Tigris, the Euphrates.

The Bible says one had delium, one had gold.

That that gold, there was gold there flowing down to Ethiopia.

And there it divided and became four rivers.

The name of the first is the Pishon.

That is the one that flowed around the whole land of Havilah where there is gold.

The gold of that land is good.

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden and from thence it was parted and became into four heads.

The name of the first is Pison, that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah where there is gold.

And the gold of that land is good, there is Bedellium and the onyx stone.

The name of the second river is Gihon, the same as that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

But this is a description of the pre-flood world and of this river that flowed out of Eden that then separated into four separate watercourses.

So clearly, the survivors of the flood were familiar with this.

So we have the first river called Pison, which is said to compass or to encircle the land of Havilah.

This word Havilah means sandy, so perhaps it was a sandy region.

So all of this work we've done in previous weeks, looking at the Kings of the East, now we have background.

So the great river Euphrates, just like we said, the Nile is thought to represent the Pishon river of Eden.

in the upper realms, the Euphrates is thought to represent the Perat river of the Garden of Eden, which was a source river.

It was a, it actually means fruitful.

She says, therefore, I have come out to meet you, to seek your presence earnestly, and I have found you.

Genesis 2, 10-14 describes a river flowing out of Eden and dividing into four headwaters.

The Tigris, flowing east of Assyria.

And the Euphrates.

Two of these, the Tigris and Euphrates, are real, identifiable rivers still flowing today through modern Iraq and Turkey, which is exactly why Eden has traditionally been situated somewhere in or near ancient Mesopotamia.

The Pishon and Gihon have never been conclusively identified, and that uncertainty opens up a genuinely wide range of candidates worth naming in full, since rivers can vanish or get renamed across enough centuries.

He said to Adam, he said, there's a river that flows out of Eden, and at the very, very first juncture, the Pishon, that river will skirt the land of Havilah where there's gold, and the gold in that land is fine gold.

Now, the gold wasn't floating on the river.
