Pisgah National Forest

No, it did go out.

But the interesting thing about this story is we did decide to go on this backpacking trip up in Pisgah National Forest up in Western North Carolina.

You know, Hurricane Matthew was coming in on the coast of South Carolina, but it wasn't actually coming direct hit South Carolina.

What it did essentially was... you know, kind of come up the Florida coastline, I guess, graze the South Carolina coast.

And walk on that land.

And Pisgah National Forest isn't far away either.

So we're really lucky to be right 15 minutes from the parkway or 20 minutes.

Mm-hmm.

Our last operation began on October 10, three years ago.

The official case file was for a She was 26, an experienced trail runner, and had last been seen at a trailhead in the Pisgah National Forest.

She told her roommate she was doing a simple 10-mile day hike.

She never came back.

That's worse.

Linville Gorge is part of Pisgah National Forest.

It's a wilderness area, about 12 miles long, with the Linville River running along the bottom.

The walls are steep and rocky, and in places they drop more than a thousand feet.

They all go up in the woods at the same time.

Now Greensboro Day goes in September, so that's reduced the traffic on the Pisgah National Forest.

Yes.

It's a beautiful spot.

Five years of whispers, legends, and scars lead me here.

The Pisgah National Forest sprawls before me, a cathedral of green and shadow, steeped in stories the park guides don't repeat.

The disappearances aren't random.

There's a pattern etched in the trees, in the symbols carved by claws or maybe by fingers that weren't human.

Days after Mary's disappearance, things would take a strange turn when Roy received a call from an anonymous person demanding a ransom payment in exchange for Mary's safe return.

The water comes from the Shining Rock Wilderness Area, which is located in the Pisgah National Forest, which is above our trout farm.

It drops directly from there into a man-made lake called Lake Logan, which is a, a privately-owned lake, has a huge dam.

Water drops off of there at 12,000 gallons a minute into our system.
