The Pisgah National Forest is extremely remote, consists of several thousand acres of forest land.

Right before COVID, one of the last places I fished was a place called the South Mills River in North Carolina, which is a wonderful wild brown and rainbow trout fishery whose headwaters are also in roadless areas.

That's the Pisgah National Forest.

In the West, it's like, you know, you can take a dart and throw it on a map and you're going to hit a system that's positively influenced by roadless areas.

The U.S. Forest Service won't hold a public meeting about the June immigration operation at Wilson Creek, where 13 people were arrested in Pisgah National Forest.

Supervisor James Malonis says local forest leaders don't manage law enforcement and have no additional information.

But Immigration and Customs Enforcement says the Forest Service initially requested the operation.

In fact, there were several other mysterious deaths and disappearances that people believe he could have committed as early as 1997.

On April 11th, 1998, Clemson University student 20-year-old Jason Andrew Knapp disappeared.

His abandoned 1990 Chevrolet was found abandoned nine days later at Table Rock Slate Park in Pickens County, South Carolina.

This specific space is located in Pisgah National Forest in Burke County, North Carolina.

And Asheville's outdoor festival and music scene runs strong all summer long, with events happening in the city's parks most weekends.

Outer Banks Rentals and Asheville's downtown core run noticeably higher during peak summer season, especially for lodging near the water or the arts district.

Rural mountain areas in the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests are dramatically more affordable, with camping often running $20 to $35 a night.

Balancing a coastal or mountain town stretch with a quieter rural stretch keeps your overall North Carolina trip very manageable.

DuPont State Recreational Forest was nearby with its roaring waterfalls and winding trails.

Jump Off Rock offered views stretching across four states on a clear day, and just beyond their doorstep, the Blue Ridge Mountains rose up through Pisgah National Forest.

It was a perfect home base for them, and very quickly their neighbors came to love them.

People up and down the road would call Irene just to let her know there were deer nearby, knowing that she'd want to go see them.

Irene was 84, but despite their ages, they still remained active.

And so on the afternoon of October 21st, 2007, they decided to lace up their hiking boots and head out for a peaceful Sunday adventure on one of their favorite trails.

The Pink Beds Loop Trail sits in the heart of Pisgah National Forest, a gentle well-worn path that winds through the wide mountain bog surrounded by wildflowers.

The nearly flat boardwalk loop crosses small creeks and is lined with tall pines.
