The tragic death of an American family in a plane crash on Monday still grabbing headlines.

The plane, a Piper PA-34, United States Registration November 212 Mike Lima, left Great Harbor Cay in the Barry Islands en route to Miami when it disappeared from radar around 10 a.m. Before the family found the bodies of their loved ones, they put together their own search and rescue party early Tuesday morning, accusing Bahamian authorities of not doing enough.

But Royal Bahamas Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxie is hitting back at those claims, saying they did everything they could that fateful day despite the obstacles.

Four of their loved ones, dead after the aircraft they were traveling in, crashed in waters off of Andres Monday morning.

Family members identifying them, Mario Lamar, age 70, his wife, Lily Lamar, age 79, and their two grandchildren, Sophie and Christian Sosa, 28 and 22 years old.

While we know their names, what are their stories? From all accounts, Mario Lamar was an experienced pilot.

And a twin-engine plane made an emergency landing at Montgomery County Airpark after having issues with the nose gear and circling the sky several times, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service officials and flight radar data.

Crews were called to the airport after learning a Piper PA-34-200 plane with two people on board was trying to land when it had the equipment issues.

Officials said the plane circled the airport to resolve the issue before it landed.

Video from Montgomery County officials showed the plane landing with the nose on the ground.
