And so I'm like, "I wanna do Dark Side of the Moon." Pink Floyd was my favorite band.

Yeah.

I'm like, "I wanna go there." So that's the kinda record I wanted to make, and the band was like, "Well, you know, we gotta stay with, you know, What's Up and all these songs." I'm like, "But those songs suck."

All right.

Jethro Tull, is it a person or a band? Pink Floyd, which one's pink? I don't know.

I read something Thurston said that, like, when you guys initially signed to Geffen, people there had the idea that maybe you guys had a, um, a Dark Side of the Moon in you guys.

Like, they were, they were kinda thinking of you [laughs] as, as a, like, a sleeper Pink Floyd, you know? Kinda all these crazy records, and then oh, but they're gonna, if they get focused enough, they're gonna have a Dark Side of the Moon.

Does that ring true?

Well, I don't know.

Yes, yeah.

Am I Pink Floyd for the rest of my life?

The rest of your life.

Is that the clip that's playing at my in memoriam?

And we always like a music analogy as well.

Pink Floyd, you know, obviously.

So, yeah, I know there's so many practical obstacles to this.

To me, even this whole launch sounds super familiar to the early launches with the phone call to the mission people, right? So absolutely.

And there is Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd, right? Can't make this stuff up.

So I feel, yeah, let's look at the cards and ask what we need to know.

But I was getting that this year there was going to be some big intel about the moon.

Exactly.

Pink Floyd famously featured it on their album cover.

It's like they're bringing music back to its roots.

And it's not just any venue.

So you suddenly all hands everywhere.

And they talk about this with like Pink Floyd, where you're having to kind of automate and you've got so many hands and you've got loops going.

And I think No longer was it, I need to capture a performance.

Here's an orchestra, put the mics up, capture it.

But I mean, everything else after that was number one.

But I think, you know, the extraordinary power of... of the relationship between abbey road and the beatles can't be underestimated it's it's to this day and of course there's a there's a present new artist coming through but for me personally you know that was one of the wondrous things you know that's happened in music over the last century is is the relationship between abbey road and the beatles and as you said because of the fact that abbey road has always kept up with the technology even then even when you know when i was there for the 10 years I was there it was like they were always improving the gear they were always trying to get the best of the best the technical team was fantastic you know Simon you know and the team the guys there and Dan and always trying to make things as brilliant as it could be for the artist and the reason why I always recorded in Abbey Road was because you always knew you were in safe hands you always knew you had no excuses musically that was your game but you knew it was going to be recorded properly And that whole period of time with the Beatles proved that.

And I think then moving on to Pink Floyd, you know, sort of obviously, I think they were actually recording their first album when the Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper.

What was the name of that record? The Piper and the

you know, a Steely Dan song

or a Joe song or Pink Floyd or something.

And I just like watch her sort of perceive it.
