Ping'er

Now, he's been sent there by his father, by Jia Sha, to find out, you know, how things are going, to find out whether there's any news about the, uh, the attempts to, you know, take Faithful Yuanyang as a, as a concubine.

And so Jia Lian is about to enter when he's stopped by another maidservant, uh, Ping'er, or Patience in the Hawkes English translation, and she warns him that Grandmother Jia is in a very bad mood and he's likely just to get an earful if he enters.

But he decides to ignore her and, uh, he does indeed enter during the card game and as predicted, Grandmother Jia, um, yeah, she shouts at him for good measure.

So he and Lady Xing return home and we hear that Jia Sha finally does accept that Faithful has refused him, um, albeit he does so in extremely, uh, in an extremely bad mood, mood, in extremely bad humor we might say.

Yeah.

Um, yeah, so we see that they let Grandmother Jia win a hand, and so she, she kind of takes all the cash.

Um, and so, you know, they're kind of in the inner chamber, I suppose, and then waiting in the outer chamber is, um, well, among others, uh, Ping'er, uh, known as Patience in the Hawks.

So that's, uh, Xifeng's own kind of handmaiden in chief.
