Pilbara

good to have you in.

Right, today we're going to talk about the defence sector, some Pilbara mining deals, gas reservations, Northern Star, and a bit of stuff in the courtroom and administration stuff.

So firstly, Sam, the state government's Western Defence Forge process, it's saying it's second phase with several proposals to evaluate.

What do we really know about this

This is the first for them.

Yeah.

And it is, you know, you think of the Pilbara and you just think there's mines everywhere, but there's never been a mine on Yarramatta country.

Uh, it crosses over a bit into Martu country as well.

And so that's collecting warm air and it's going to start migrating west over the coming days.

And that trough is then going to develop down the Pilbara and along the west coast from Monday.

So we are looking towards a very spring-like pattern for next week.

But for the next couple of days, this means temperatures are remaining warmer than average over the Kimberley, the Pilbara and the Gascoyne.

And for tomorrow, some of those temperatures, we've got 37 the top in Wyndham, Kununurra and Marlborough, 33 tomorrow in Port Hedland, 31 for Tom Price, 30 in Karratha and 25 for Carnarvon.

Now, we're also seeing some isolated afternoon showers and morning fog remaining to be the case about the northern Kimberley.

But the rest of the north remains mostly clear until Tuesday, where parts of the inland Pilbara, so mostly south of Newman, And also the gas coin will see some showers and thunderstorms possible along this trough that will move by in the afternoon.

Looking east, no rainfall to mention over the goldfields until Monday when showers and thunderstorms move over the region, again associated with that trough making its way west.

So

But...

so and then you've obviously got night shift day shift so it's dark when you wake up it's dark when you go to sleep or finish finish work so um you can't really run on the road with the traffic and everything like that so you're sort of confined to either around the camp um which isn't up it's torches so if you really want to get a quality session in you you have to use the treadmill um you just make you make work with what you've got like i'll do my long runs when i'm here i'll try and maintain that fitness, do a few shorter sessions while on site, and then back into training when I fly back home.

Anyway, walk into the foyer.

I'm in a five-star hotel foyer with a 15-metre HK video screen from ceiling to floor showing landscape pictures of the Pilbara, which are absolutely stunning.

You just walk in there and you just – anyway.

And then we move through the security gates, airport style.

But to have our partners in BF5 going out there and securing four systems to go to those sites.

And then we then learned and delivered in the Pilbara, and took all those learnings on how to do better high-speed travel, and some of our ruggedized electronics, improved tuning of our motor controllers, and we pushed that back as a mid-life upgrade on the three systems that ADF had going into Talisman Sabre 2025.

So, you know, that was a really good example of going to a different market, taking the lessons learned, and pushing that out into defense and, you know, continuing to develop the platform and investing millions in for another sector as part of our sales cycle to then push that back into defense.

Yeah.

We just have upgraded a train loadout.

It's in the Pilbara of Australia.

In the where? The Pilbara.

Pilbara is like in Australia in the iron ore globally.

It's probably one of the areas for iron ore production globally would be the Pilbara.

So, you know, when you get – so you crush your products, you chuck it on a stockpile, and then you then will then use a – we call it a yard machine.

So you've got to get it onto a stockpile, get it off a stockpile.

So you don't get to see a lot of it.

And I actually went to a regional center.

I went up into the Pilbara and I was working out of a local community up there.

And the first week I was in the police, out on the road as a general duties police officer i went to a case where a young girl had been abused at a sleepover and that was pretty eye-opening to me because for me uh child sexual abuse and abuse was on the periphery i did grow up in a home that was quite dysfunctional with some uh you know substance abuse issues and and really dysfunctional parenting and families.

And so that was my upbringing, but I wasn't actually, you don't think about it when you're a kid and you don't think about it until later on when you become a parent.

And I learned some things that really blew the lid off my brain and made me realize just how prevalent it is in our community.

And from that day forward, I became a specialist child interviewer.

I was interviewing children all through the Pilbara, being flown to very small towns and to interview children who had been abused.

And then when I decided to become a detective I then put my hand up again and said I want to go into child sexual abuse child abuse squad and worked in the child abuse squad and towards the end of my career for the last two years I was interviewing children investigating their cases arresting their offenders and then managing child sex offenders when they were released from prison so I can't tell you exactly what drove me that way, but I think part of me wanted to protect kids.
