Pike Street

Arthur ran the place with an iron hand as market director until 1941.

He spent his days in an executive corner suite on the upper level of the corner market building, leaning on the windowsill, staring down at the crowds swarming Pike Street.

Arthur's old office is still there today.

It's called the Goodwin Library, and it's mostly used for administrative meetings.

I stopped and stood still.

The corridor around me was Section 4, which runs roughly parallel to Section 7 but one level lower, connecting to a different utility junction off Pike Street.

I'd been routed through it as a standard add-on since the Section 7 route runs short on inspection time.

I'd walked Section 4 probably 60 times in the last three years.

Not like he was surprised, like he was confirming a total.

Sea-level passage, he said.

East of the Pike Street Utility Junction.

That's where mine was.
