PICO-8

This is the PicoTron by Lexaloffle Games.

Now, I was really into the Pico 8 years and years ago.

It was their first offering.

It was dubbed as a fantasy console and it was this whole 8-bit development environment.

You can completely customise the actual OS itself.

And it's built on tightly integrated, flexible graphics and audio pipelines that can happily run on low-powered host machines and the web.

So as per Pico 8, this thing is really nicely thought out and evidently a lot of... you know, a lot of work has gone into creating this thing.

And, you know, and quite rightly, it is also starting to build up its own homebrew scene, you know, as kind of a spin-off of the Pico 8, which is lovely to see.

Again, a production pipeline I cannot fathom.

For the low-tech version, when I was talking about Pico-8 making games, I remember with Nintendo games, sometimes you get a big guide, most of the time they're these little pamphlets.

So I was trying to burn through, because Wednesday is when all my accounts reset.

For some reason, my Clod and my Codex always reset.

Those are the old school days.

And it wasn't until, if you go down a little bit, Sony, there's the Pico 8 on the RG350.

That was the first one where I was like, hey, this is actually like cool because no one's made a video about this thing, right? And then I started going through different systems and trying new things and whatnot.

And yeah, like some of these are really old videos and definitely don't watch them because the voicing is terrible, but...

Seven.

Six good Pico-8 games.

Uh, there's gonna be a couple news items we have to touch on.

Um, but, uh, most of the news will be next episode, and we're gonna finish this thing off with six good games.

Throwing it back, the third time we've done this topic because there's an ever-growing library of Pico-8 games.

So we've got six good ones to cover.

Apparently there's Metroidvanias in this, and platformers, and roguelikes, and even a deck builder.

Built with the love of the Pico-8.

And I've been seeing so much Pico 8 lately.

I feel like it's the universe telling me, Xander, you need to take that rabbit hole plunge.

I feel like that's what you would expect.

And I think

like from a Pico-8 perspective, because Pico-8 is like a little more feature-ridden or feature-laden, we'll say, Atari era.
