Piano Sonata in B minor

So I'll be performing for the first half of the concert, Granados, Maiden and the Nightingale, which is part of a very beautiful suite from the Goyeskas.

After that, I'll perform Liszt's Piano Sonata in B minor, one of my favorite works.

And then in the second half of the concert, I'll be performing Claude Debussy's Estampes, which includes three movements, Pagodes, Evening in Granada and Gardens Under the Rain.

Also one of my very, I really like this cycle a lot.

For instance, I think you can get a sense of what these particular recordings I'm going to talk about sound like, judging from the reviews.

For example, I'm going to read his review of Geza Anda's recording of the Liszt Sonata.

This is from, I think, the mid-1950s.

And this is a relatively short review, but I think it's pretty concise and informative.

Raymond Erickson says about Geza Onda's recording of the Liszt Sonata, which also has other works on the disc.

He writes, this young Hungarian pianist turns in what is probably the best interpretation of the Liszt Sonata now available on LP discs.

The wide expressive gamut is here, as it is in the admirable version of his countrywoman, Edith Farnady.
