Physical education

We hear the discussions about integrating more play-based provision throughout kind of key stage one predominantly.

But, you know, I'm a huge advocate for having that across primary and up into secondary as well, where it's obviously... sparse in terms of of those experiences but bringing that outside as well and even something as simple as kind of um i remember i think my last outdoor experience within secondary would have been using quadrant grids in year seven to kind of introduce different ideas in in biology and Yeah, and PE, yeah,

of course.

And that's, you know, in terms of talking about accessibility, if we're talking physical education, actually, for a lot of children, particularly within their secondary school experience, I hated PE at secondary school, but I love being outside.

So actually, if you're using it within that parameter that you associate the outdoor learning with physical education, for example, that actually...

it creates a huge barrier for a lot of children who might not engage in that kind of sports side of things, but would actually very much enjoy their wider education being integrated into the outdoors where there are huge possibilities for that across the board, whether that be looking at different kind of data stratification in your maths lessons or even as simple as reading outside within an English lesson at secondary school.

Welcome back to another episode of Crazy Fun PE with Mrs. T, the podcast on a mission to make school fun again.

I love September.

I love the cooler, crisp weather, the excitement of a brand new school year, and that feeling that we all get to start fresh again.

New students, new classes, new routines, and most importantly... new opportunities to play some crazy fun PE games.

And today I'm sharing five of my absolute favorite elementary PE games to play during the month of September.

These are games that I find myself coming back to year after year because they just work so well for the beginning of the new school year.

I mean, there could be something done there.

Couldn't there with PPA and the way, you know, like in primary schools where they have, they have like a PE PPA cover.

person who's specifically employed to do PE with classes and that effectively covers the teacher's PPA I wonder if there's room for looking at it in a strategic way that way so we don't perhaps have students jumping from place to place place within a day but

yeah

they are you know they have a college day yeah yeah they have a college day right there or they have a work experience day or they have a business day or whatever it is where they're they're placing the local businesses because that's the other thing isn't it it's supposed to form links with local businesses that's kind of the idea behind it isn't it um but i'm interested in what's kind of in it for the businesses in the short term.

Like I'm a legit teacher.

I am a health and PE teacher.

here in DC.

I'm a high school teacher.

So I left my position with Orange Theory as the head coach, and I've transitioned into a full-time teaching position here in DC.

And this morning I woke up and I got ready as usual.

Since I'm a PE teacher, I wear real chill clothes.

I don't have to wear a uniform, but I just literally wear a t-shirt, sports bra, and I wear like joggers to work, like joggers, lifestyle, leisure, joggers.

With the years that I was remote coaching, I was teaching full time.

I was a PE teacher for K through 6 for three years, and that was insane.

Honestly, that was insane.

So I would actually get up, this is before me and Tristan had a house, so we actually lived, while we were building the house, lived in a camper on our land.

So then I just, I love coaching.

I love obviously seeing people become fitter and better.

So as the years went on, I definitely didn't wanna stay in teaching PE.

I knew from the first year, I was like, "This is not it.
