T
26:41Tom OrrHOST
This would have been a great week to have everyone out there and have it sort of be a get-right game.
T
26:46Tom OrrHOST
But if you're not going to have him, this is a good one to not have him because you didn't lose anything by not having him out there.
T
29:09Tom OrrHOST
You know, you got through this week.
T
29:12Tom OrrHOST
They got through reasonably healthy.
T
29:14Tom OrrHOST

T
29:19Tom OrrHOST
Did he say anything about James Smith? I don't think I heard.

PREGAME: Ohio State vs. Kent State: What To Watch For
J
10:34Juck MiletiHOST
And we could really see it break out in a game like this.
T
10:36Tony GerdemanHOST
I'll just say regarding the Zion Grady injury, the Philip Daniels injury, it's just too bad that Ohio State doesn't have the medical staff that LSU has.
T
10:46Tom OrrHOST
Yeah, Sam Levitt, in case you were not familiar with this week's Lane Kiffin nonsense du jour, it was Sam Levitt, the starting quarterback for LSU, went from doubtful to questionable to off the injury report entirely in the span of 48 hours.
T
11:04Tom OrrHOST
It's a medical miracle.
20 MINS LATER
T
31:22Tom OrrHOST
Yep, for sure.
T
31:23Tom OrrHOST
Let's wrap up with the offensive line.
T
31:25Tom OrrHOST
We're not expecting Philip Daniels today.
T
31:29Tom OrrHOST
I mean, it's not official yet, but we're expecting to not see Philip Daniels, much like Zion Grady.
Snap Judgments: Ohio State handles Kent State, Buckeyes short-yardage, red zone issues persist
A
16:22Austin WardHOST
those two positions, you're talking about a defensive end and a defensive tackle where some of that depth could be challenged and then force Larry Johnson and Matt Patricia to get more creative there.
A
16:31Austin WardHOST
Phillip Daniels he didn't have any protective braces or anything on uh but he was walking very gingerly i asked several people after the game you know if next week was the target and they sort of just threw up their hands and shrugged and didn't seem all that confident that that was uh close for him gabe van sickle did get the start at right guard and austin serval was the right tackle i think gabe vance sickle just based on snap judgments initial impressions i thought he played pretty solidly yeah i i don't that's one of those things
J
16:59Jeremy BirminghamHOST
i'm not going to really speculate on it because I need to rewatch.
J
17:01Jeremy BirminghamHOST
It's really hard to see what's happening in the middle.

Now, I'll just say regarding the Zion Grady injury, the Philip Daniels injury, it's just too bad that Ohio State doesn't have the medical staff that LSU has.

GAME DAY LIVE - WEEK 3 - Episode 842
E
69:11Eric BoggsHOST
All right, the other thing on the offensive side of the ball before we go to the defense, the other thing on the offensive side of the ball that I'm going to be watching with a lot of intent is the offensive line.
E
69:21Eric BoggsHOST
So I do not think Philip Daniels returns today.
E
69:25Eric BoggsHOST
I think he is going to be not available in this football game.
E
69:30Eric BoggsHOST
So does Austin kick the right? Who's that right guard? Do they go with Padilla? Do they go back to Van Sickle again? How does that look? Ian Moore had a bad game at left tackle last week.
The Beat: Ohio State mailbag questions as Buckeyes return to field with an eye on moving past Texas
J
18:31Jeremy BirminghamHOST
we're done
A
18:32Austin WardHOST
uh i know anyway uh appreciate ben for that this is from rusty uh will kairi wilder and riley pettijohn start on defense for the first time in their careers against kent state or illinois will philip daniels get his job back if he's out for at least two weeks and austin cereveld at right tackle looks good thanks rusty um I don't think I have Kyrie Wilder starting on my current bingo card.
A
18:57Austin WardHOST
I do think that there is a good chance in the next two weeks that we could see Riley Pettijohn, as you mentioned on Wednesday night I asked you this question, if you have the right personnel package that you'll see him.
A
19:09Austin WardHOST
I wonder and I hope that we get to pick the brain of Matt Patricia again soon if there is, and maybe we'll just see it and we won't have to ask, if that 3-3-5 look could become a staple if that is the best way to use the talent that's on hand, which in Riley Pettijohn, I think is abundantly clearly emerging as the most disruptive force and someone who can get to the quarterback.
A
19:45Austin WardHOST
We'll get to the offensive line after that.
J
19:47Jeremy BirminghamHOST
What's the question?
A
19:48Austin WardHOST
Will Kyrie Wilder and or Riley Pettijohn start on defense for the first time in their careers in the next two weeks? And then the second was if Philip Daniels will be replaced, depending on how Austin Saravell, that right tackle looks.
J
20:00Jeremy BirminghamHOST
It's certainly more likely that Riley Pettijohn starts one of these two games.
Bold Predictions: Ohio State ready to bounce back against Kent State, young players in spotlight
A
21:41Austin WardHOST
And you know, the thing that could have the most lasting impact on this team is if Gabe Bancickel shows that, I know it's Kent State, but if he plays a game that really draws the attention of Tyler Bowen and Arthur Smith and Ryan Day and puts that in the back of their mind, all right, You did some of this in training camp and they moved Austin Cervell to tackle and guard.
A
22:01Austin WardHOST
They had chances to look at Philip Daniels out there and do every configuration.
A
22:06Austin WardHOST
But those weren't in real live game settings.
A
22:08Austin WardHOST
Yeah.
A
22:09Austin WardHOST
If Gabe Van Sickle shows more of the Indiana version of himself than the one against Miami, I and we don't know for sure.
A
22:17Austin WardHOST
Again, for an injury update, those aren't going to be out on the availability report until next week.
A
22:21Austin WardHOST
But Philip Daniels, we also don't expect to play.
A
22:23Austin WardHOST
So if Gabe Van Sickle maxes that out, if he does that and is playing against Illinois, what does that mean for that group moving forward? It's great to have depth.
Five Ohio State position groups in SPOTLIGHT during tune-up game vs. Kent State
S
17:49Spencer HolbrookHOST
I understand why they used the tight ends against Texas.
S
17:53Spencer HolbrookHOST
If you were unsure heading into the game about Philip Daniels and Ian Moore, use your tight ends to help out there.
S
17:59Spencer HolbrookHOST
It did condense what they could do in the passing game.
S
18:02Spencer HolbrookHOST
It didn't bother them in the first half.
S
18:39Spencer HolbrookHOST
Not getting worked, but...
S
18:41Spencer HolbrookHOST
Having a mixed bag against Ball State and being pretty good against Texas, there has to be some sort of middle ground there with this offensive line, which is why I said I was going to snake because I just want to talk about this offensive line, Mick.
S
18:51Spencer HolbrookHOST
Now Philip Daniels is out of the picture.
S
18:53Spencer HolbrookHOST
He's probably not going to play at right tackle.

S
35:38Stephen MeansGUEST
The fact that they couldn't lean on their offensive line in the fourth quarter against Texas is a little bit disappointing.
S
35:44Stephen MeansGUEST
But now with Phillip Daniels, he's probably not going to play tomorrow.
S
35:48Stephen MeansGUEST
You're kind of trying some different options, right? We'll get to see Gabe VanSickle with the starters a little bit more and also Sarah Lowe.
S
35:54Stephen MeansGUEST
What does he look like as a right tackle? What does Carter Lowe look like? as a depth piece.
