Philip Markoff

And from there, they found their suspect.

22-year-old Philip Markoff.

They showed his ID to Tricia and she said there was no doubt that was him.

They put Philip under surveillance and followed him and his fiancée, leaving the apartment with suitcases and doing some shopping.

The time is 3.35 p.m., April 20, 2009.

Thank you.

Philip Markoff was arrested and charged with murder.

Today we're here to announce the arrest of Philip Markoff, 22, of Quincy.

And pretty soon, the media had a nickname for Michael.

They called him the Craigslist Killer.

The nickname the Craigslist Killer was the headline version of this story, the one the rest of the world got.

But back in Cottage Grove, from the very first day after the news, the Olsens were living a completely different one.

Rolf and Nancy didn't hide what had happened to their daughter.

And then there were the inmates.

Michael had been in the Scott County Jail ever since his arrest, and some of the men who had been locked up with him took the stand.

A former cellmate told the jury that Michael had bragged about being known as the Craigslist Killer, the nickname that the media had given him.

That's amazing

... well, so back when I started, Craigslist Killer was a thing.

Mm.

A long time ago.

He's very calm, like he's done it before.

My name is Tricia Leffler, and I was attacked by the Craigslist killer.

Craigslist, in the prostitution game today, is the old Yellow Pages.

It's easier for aspiring predators to find prey.

She fought back.

Her killer, who police have identified as Philip Markoff, smashed her over the head with a gun and then shot her three times, striking her in the heart.

Boston police say the Craigslist killer is a 22-year-old pre-med student at Boston University.

I discovered that Philip Markoff did have a secret life, a side of him that his family and friends had no idea existed.
