Phil Longo

And I think Phil Longo, who's been coaching this thing in his second year, they were 2-10 last year.

He took over a team that actually had won double-digit wins the year before.

And pretty heavy speculation back when Cliff was here and they were going to hire an OC.

I think he ended up hiring Kevin Johns.

But I think Phil Longo was very much in that conversation.

But he's a guy that I think Cliff bounced a lot of things off of.

record this year, it's a lot of extenuating circumstances.

A team, though, that looks a lot better in year two under their head coach, Sam Houston, in year two of the Phil Longo era.

You know what hasn't been an error? Phil Longo in year two.

Yeah, they've looked really good.

That was exciting.

And I did hear something in the broadcast I found interesting where it was Colton Joseph last year was very much a spread offense, kind of like what Phil Longo ran here.

Colton couldn't run it the Badgers had faith he could figure it out but and this made me think of young QBs in the NFL where it is this idea of well what how long until they can match their footwork and slow down their processing so then their physical abilities can take over and so if you want to be an optimist into this that's what happened Colton Joseph is that he was able to do all the pre-snap reads and then figure stuff out on the field as it's happening and and also keep his mechanics and his footwork proper because that's a lot of things that happen all at once last year in a single read offense or you know it's probably they cut the field in half and if they're open throw it if not run it uh that makes uh his physical abilities pop very quickly this offense it's going to take him more time to get his physical abilities to pop but this offense is needed to get the most out of colton joseph in the long run so I get why the Badgers are running it.
