Now, I'm gonna check before I say.

So I've got Peterson's Field Guide here at hand, and um, that's not the plants.

All right.

Here's the plants.

The calyx is used to treat hiccups and that's part of the flower.

So Peterson Field Guide of the Eastern and Central Medicinal Plants tells us the inner bark tea is highly astringent.

In folk use, used as a gargle for sore throats and flush.

Thrush, I'm sorry, thrush, you know, like that rash that you can get if you take too many antibiotics.

but I found the Peterson Field Guide and I talked them into buying me a copy of that and I tried to figure out looking at the birds that I didn't find any Hawaii birds but I tried to connect the colors that I saw in the Peterson guide to the Hawaii birds you know the um the scarlet tanager for example you know oh there's a red bird maybe that's what I'm seeing so it's very confusing time for me in trying to figure this And unfortunately, there wasn't anything until later on.

You know, I managed later on, again, rooting through the bookstores in Honolulu to find the Monroe book on the Hawaiian birds, the birds of Hawaii.
