Peter Wyngarde

It's the prelude to the first real appearance of a ghost in the film, a man standing up on the roof of the mansion's tallest tower, and although he's backlit and silhouetted by sunlight, there's no question of his presence.

This is Peter Quint, as played by the late Peter Wingard, who is a very famous genre actor best known for playing the suave and dapper Jason King in the show's Department S and its spin-off Jason King.

He was also Clitus in the 1980 Flash Gordon movie, and appeared in the 1984 Doctor Who story Planet of Fire, but his struggles with alcohol and several minor sexual scandals left him kind of on the outside looking in for the last two decades of his life, and he's far more fondly remembered now than he was during his lifetime.
