Peter Tosh started us off with That's What They Will Do from Wanted: Dread and Alive.

Jaco Pastorius is considered to be, by many, the greatest bassist to ever live.

In 1987, legendary co-founder of the Wailers and solo pioneer reggae icon Peter Tosh was shot and killed at the age of 42 during an armed home invasion at his villa in Kingston, Jamaica.

A three-man gang led by Dennis Lepo Loban attempted to extort and rob Tosh, Resulting in a senseless tragedy that also claimed the lives of herbalist Wilton Doc Brown and disc jockey Jeff Free Eye Mason.

Just days prior, Tosh had released what would become his final studio album, No Nuclear War.

And because we've been fighting poverty for so long, the intellectual class of folks that knows these things is a small group.

And so that's one of the reasons chose music is because music allows us the ability to get messages out to large amounts of people who don't read per se but if we look at the work of let's say of Bob Marley we can see that or Peter Tosh we see that here are these anti-colonial messages packed like bombs into songs that allow people to begin to understand the history of Africa differently and shift our understandings of how what we're really fighting as a collective people because Malawi struggle, as you say, it's not unique.

It's very typical of what we know in terms of what happened in many, many situations that we're supposed to where we were supposedly decolonizing.

So Music for me has become a tool to really amplify the message my father was putting forward.

I'd heard Bob Marley.

Bob Marley had done it.

Peter Tosh had done it.

They just said what they wanted to say and the system funded it.
