Peter Squires

They survived in England and Wales until 2014 and still exist in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

And I've been discussing them with Peter Squires, Professor of Criminology and Public Policy at the University of Brighton.

There was a concern that lots of low-level offending was being committed with a degree of impunity.

A lot of it was directed at criticism of young people, issues of vandalism, abuse, swearing, littering.

Sexual risk orders, sexual harm prevention orders, slavery prevention orders, they've all come from the kind of ASBO route, the injunction route, and they are a new approach to enforcement.

I'm not wholly convinced that we've got this one right.

Thank you to Peter Squires there.

James, just thinking of the history, listening to that makes me think there was a pre-ASBO world and a post-ASBO world.
