Peter O'reilly

Victoria started chasing this event about two and a half years ago, with Steve being the government's lead man to make it happen.

He flew over to the US to the Super Bowl to show that Victoria was serious, and then eventually stood on stage with the NFL's Peter O'Reilly to announce that Australia would be the sixth country that the NFL would be played in.

And now, about a month ago, 100,000 people poured into Yarra Park for a game that was estimated to be worth around $300 million.

There's a lot to look out for in this episode, including how the NFL came to town, the government's role in shaping a sporting culture, plans for the MCG redevelopment, and why Melbourne has more jobs in sport than anywhere else in the country, thanks to the 52 professional teams and 32 national sporting bodies that are headquartered here.

This was the last moment we were literally about to ink the contract.

Yep.

So I went there and I met with Roger Goodell first time and Peter O'Reilly.

So it was Peter and I who made the announcement on the stage that we would be the sixth country in the world to go into it.
