What's been the War Memorial's defence to doing this?

Well, I don't know what the defence is.

They seem to have this idea that what happened in the frontier is part of our military history, which it is not.

And therefore, if it's part of our military history, it should be covered by the Australian War Memorial.

The bottom line is if there were 100,000 casualties, that's a scale that equates to the world wars and that equates roughly to the number of Australians who have died on active service since Federation.

So what they're trying to do is to say, look at the scale of this war.

If we're going to have the War Memorial, then it must include the Aboriginal Frontier Wars.

If people want to join you in resisting this attempt to turn history on its head and feed the guilt and shame complex, what should they do?

So just remind us, why are they at each other's throats?

Yeah, so Anthropic accuses Alibaba of basically ripping it off, copying its homework, if you like.

A couple of weeks ago, they sent a letter to two US senators describing what they called as the biggest distillation attack against Claude they'd ever seen.

So what's distillation? Basically, it's when you get a powerful big model, which is very capable, maybe belonging to another AI company entirely, and you bombard it with loads and loads and loads of questions, and you get the answers to those questions, and you feed those answers to the AI model that you're developing.

It's a way to cut back on costs, but to still produce a very high performing model without having to do all of the complex training.

It's a way of cutting corners, basically.

So Anthropic says Alibaba has been doing this.

But what about the claim, Peter, that we've heard a lot in the past couple of days, that these AC units are pumping heat back out into the city, and therefore, really, they're just making the problem worse?

Well, it depends what problem.

And I think people conflate things here.

Yes, they do make cities maybe one or two degrees warmer during a heat wave if they're being used a lot by everyone.

That's going to make people less comfortable.

But it will prevent these preventable deaths.

But that's very different to climate change.

But isn't generally, though, there just a concern that more electricity is being used? And clearly, when we're talking about climate change, that's a problem as well.

What is the European approach to this?

Yeah, so the American approach is very much a resolutely American one, like putting their hands in.

into their wallets and buying up a share of this exciting technology, literally.

Whereas in the EU, we've got this new package of rules that are going to be coming into effect.

So we've got the new Cloud and AI Act and a new CHIPS Act as well.

And the idea is actually to remove some of the restrictions on AI development and industry that there were before because there have been years of complaints about the EU over-regulating and under-innovating.

But it still remains very much European in the sense that the priority is European industry building that up and also still making sure that European data remains in Europe as much as possible.

OK, well, let's bring this back to the IPOs then, because one of the biggest of them, Anthropic, does seem to be charting an entirely separate course.

So Peter, I mean, [laughs] so briefly, if you can, um, uh, document what happened in 2023 and how you came to break that, break that story.

So this was about three years ago that we started investigating France Cricket because we'd heard of these apparent, um, ghost matches, as we termed them.

Uh, which are either matches where play was supposed to happen and it allegedly didn't happen, or, uh, men were playing instead of women.

And we collected a number of these allegations and also went to verify ourselves whether a couple of these matches, uh, did take place or not, and our evidence showed that they didn't.

Um, and we were also able to understand a bit more about the system by which associate members like France report to the ICC based on a number of statistics, including, um, numbers of, of players, um, and numbers of, of, uh, matches played.

So that was a source of financing for France Cricket, so we knew we had an investigation on, on our hands.

We also included in that first report a really startling interview with the former CEO of France Cricket, who, uh, called them out for what she alleged were financial, um, uh, financial, uh, misconduct.
