Peter Maher

They always said, which one did you watch? I said, neither.

You see, when I was 11, Peter Maher, the baptism on the 11th day of the Sea of the Dead, I ate them both as a snack.

Do

you have more confidence now going into a shootout than you did in the past? You think I'm afraid?

Wow

... took over for Peter Maher, and, uh, well, when you're working with a team or for a team, you become a fan of that team.

So I certainly am pro Flames these days.

But you know what? Uh, the Canucks and the Oilers are the Flames' biggest rivals.

Yeah.

It's, uh, very, very positive so far.

We have Rick Dhaliwal out of Vancouver from Donny & Dhali show, and we've got Deryk Wills, l- uh, longtime radio voice of the Calgary Flames, replacing, uh, the legendary Peter Maher, who passed away this summer.

He was a great man, great guy.

So, it's, that's kind of where I think it'll hit most.

And then, and I'm sure the Flames will do, uh, a Peter Maher night or something like that.

Like, there's gonna be so many firsts and lasts this year with the Flames, which is quite, you know, g- great and exciting because that means the new building's right around the corner, right? So, you're gonna have, you know, some, some tributes to Cliff Fletcher and guys like that, I would hope and, and think, and, and Peter Maher.

But you're also gonna, "Hey, you know, it's one month away from the last game," type of thing.

Like, you're gonna have a lot of tributes, and hopefully that's where you bring in some, some of the old folks type of us, the kippers and the, you know, the people like that.

QR77, the longtime voice of the Stampeders, and back, back in the day, the Flames were there.

Peter Maher used to call games on QR.

Um, they, they get the rights, and then there's a, a bit of a courting period.

They get Derek Wills, and then we find out that Megan Mickelson is in, and Pat Steinberg is in.

Yeah.

Peter Maher did 2,900.

That's ridiculous.

Yeah.

And I've told this story on the podcast a few times, but never really in a Peter Mar... type of a way I'll always remember the 2004 run and I didn't really watch many of the games I listened to them and I know I've told you this I've told this on the podcast a few times but I was 14 or 15 I would have been 14 and my dad and I were in Longview At his trapper's cabin, he had a trapper's cabin, which was, I believe was 20 square kilometers along the great divide, which is the mountain range that, uh, separates Alberta and BC.

And he had this giant trapper's cabin and every day we'd go and check the traps.

Um, which was a really interesting experience for me because I'd never really been into that type of stuff and him and I didn't really have a great relationship up to that point in fact it had been quite rocky and what ended up happening was um we listened to every game on a little battery powered radio about that big just a tiny little thing about this the width of my hand um battery powered because there is no electricity every night we turn on the game listened to Peter Mark called game just zoned into it, playing crib by candlelight.

And it's just one of those memories that always stands out.

And to be a part of that is really exciting.

And to be a part of it just a couple of weeks after the late, great Peter Maher, the Hall of Fame play-by-play voice of the Flames down here, unfortunately left us and passed away.

The timing just seems really, really kind of serendipitous.

And personally, what you guys have built here, At 880 and at Ched with the Oilers Now brand and what Stop has been able to build there and what you guys have done on Oilers pre and post and the brand that you've built at that radio station to be going very similarly at 770 at the sister station down here.

Yeah, he's been doing this for years.

He's talking about Peter Marsh changed his life.

He's going to be positive.

I'll never play Huberto again.
