Now, here's where I think it gets interesting for us today.

I went on to Logos Bible Software to do some research on this, and according to the book Scribes and Scripture by John Mead and Peter Gurry, our modern words tablet and scrolling both trace back to ancient writing technology, just two different kinds.

So, tablet comes from the wax and clay tablets people wrote on long before scrolls or paper were common.

Scrolling comes from the ancient scroll itself, the kind that we've been talking about this whole episode, and it describes the actual physical motion that ancient readers used with their hands, pulling the material from one side while it wound up on the other.
