You recorded this album in Sweden.

Why? I met a guy called Peter Morin, who's in a band called Peter, Bjorn and John, who are quite well known for a song called Young Folks.

And they were in early 2000s.

They're still going.

Primal Scream started in the early '80s, Bobby Gillespie and his school friend, Jim Beattie, making experimental music that saw Bobby Gillespie playing dustbin lids.

They would eventually bring in bassist Robert Young, guitarist Stuart May, drummer Tom McGuirk, and an actual drummer, Martin St. John.

Their school friend, Alan McGee, happened to be curating a record label at the time, and so they signed to it.

Around the time that the first Primal Scream single came out, Bobby Gillespie had actually been the drummer of the Jesus and Mary Chain, the legendary jangle pop band.

How's that for a review? Although obviously for safety reasons, I should make it clear that you shouldn't listen and drive when it comes to quad biking.

Just think about what happened to Ozzy Osbourne.

So this song, 'Dolls,' named in tribute to the New York Dolls, so much so that the B-side to this track is actually written by the New York Dolls guitarist, Johnny Thunders.

Sadly, John could not join us for this conversation, but I was very happy to have Peter Morin and Bjorn Ittling to talk for a little while about the great 2006 album of theirs called Writer's Block.

You've probably heard it or at least heard one of its lead singles, Young Folks, which co-stars Victoria Bergman of The Concreets and Taken by Trees.

and really kind of took the world by storm for a minute back in the mid 2000s and the album turns 20 actually this year 2026 this month august as i record this intro and in this chat peter and bjorn and i really get into the inner workings of this record what led to it what led to it sounding and being what it became and why they think it really has withstood the test of time.
