Peruna

They're all named Bevo.

Same with Peruna at SMU.

Little horses named Peruna.

They're all named Peruna.

One dies, they give them another number.

I think we're on Peruna 10 or something.

I don't know what it is.

Where does Peruna

The eagle really is cool.

I think Peruna is kind of funny with SMU because it's just a little horse.

It's just a mini horse running

around.

outstanding.

And then when they score, they run that little pony Peruna down the field.

I'm like, I've never, I've missed like what it's like to live in luxury.

And I just discovered it.

Violets was composed by Ellen Wright with lyrics by Julian Fane, and was adapted from a 1900 German poem by Heinrich Heine, and performed by the band as a traditional fraternity song.

We started with the SMU fight song, "Peruna," based on the tune She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain.

One of the more unusual names for a college fight song, Peruna is a live black Shetland pony who serves as the official mascot of the SMU Mustangs.

Peruna's first appearance was at an SMU game in 1932, and has been a tradition ever since.

The name is passed down to each successive pony, and the team is currently on Peruna IX, a miniature black stallion.
