Perry Johnson

Um, let me ask you, uh, you know, in, in campaigns, people get sometimes exaggerate, uh, things about their opponent.

Uh, Perry Johnson ran some commercials calling you a lying liberal for supporting the kill switch on cars.

Uh, you've run a commercial with Jocelyn Benson saying that she's with LCA and therefore she's too radical.

Uh, uh, I don't see either one of those as valid criticisms, but tell me why you think, if it is a valid criticism of Jocelyn Benson, and calling you a lying liberal was just a bridge too far.

And he got beat.

And a lot of Republicans went and voted for Jim Blanchard.

Do you see a problem with – it was a tough primary with – with Perry Johnson, you think that you have united the party or are you going to have to convince some of those folks that say, well, I might sit it out or I might vote Democrat, split the ticket, you know, because there are some saying we need to support one part of the ticket and, you know, and not the other part.

So how do you look at that?

That could be in part because, um, he hasn't really been on much TV, and he had a lot of TV aired against him, essentially, in the Republican primary.

When you had someone like Perry Johnson who, who plopped down, like, $30 million of his own money to try to win a Republican primary, uh, John James has got a messaging issue, issue.

Even though he's kind of a known quantity, uh, because he's run, ran twice statewide, you know, lost two state, statewide races for US Senate, and then, and then ran and, and won, uh, uh, the congressional seat in Macomb County, um, for two terms.

Um, he still seems to be struggling with, with, with connecting with voters a little bit.

Um, and, and so, uh, there's, there's a little bit of motivation issue going on right now with, with Jon James' candidacy.

That could be in part because, um, he hasn't really been on much TV, and he had a lot of TV aired against him, essentially, in the Republican primary.

When you have someone like Perry Johnson who, who plopped down, like, $30 million of his own money to try to win a Republican primary, uh, Jon James has got a messaging issue, issue.

Even though he's kind of a known quantity, uh, because he's run, ran twice statewide, you know, lost two state, statewide races for US Senate, and then, and then ran and, and won, uh, uh, the congressional seat in Macomb County, um, for two terms.

Some very well-funded candidates didn't even make it to the general election.

One of those was Perry Johnson, a Republican, who James beat for the Republican nomination for governor.

Perry spent more than $30 million of his own money, a little footnote to the final round of campaign finance reports.

He still lost relatively handily.

That could be in part because, um, he hasn't really been on much TV, and he had a lot of TV aired against him essentially in the Republican primary.

When you have someone like Perry Johnson who, who plopped down, like, $30 million of his own money to try to win a Republican primary, uh, John James has got a messaging iss- issue.

Even though he's kind of a known quantity, uh, because he's run, ran twice statewide, you know, lost two state, statewide races for US Senate and then, and then ran and, and won, uh, uh, the congressional seat in Macomb County, uh, for two terms, um, he still seems to be struggling with, with, with connecting with voters a little bit.

I guess, uh, he, you know, cinched the primary by being attached to Donald Trump, and that may be a weight in the general election.
