Perpetual calendar

Now, this is, this is a watch, uh, I don't think we talked about on the last episode.

But Blake and I peeled off to do an interview with Nicholas Bowman Scargill of Fears, of course, and Lee UN Rapati, the designer of this watch, and that is the Fears Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar.

So I will say, if you wanna know all about this watch, it's, what it's like in person, the, the story behind it from a design and a development standpoint, in particular why they, why it, uh, is, is made the way it is, we've got a, an interview up on YouTube.

Uh, Blake sat down with Nicholas and Lee to talk about that.

Uh, I'll say a few things.

One, it's incredibly well executed.

I mean, it is a perpetual calendar, but it is so tastefully executed.

It manages to feel like an elevated classical perpetual calendar, yet intrinsically and 100% a Fears watch because it, of course, lives within this Brunswick family.

It was.

And they had released their perpetual calendar, their QP, and we'd recorded this a few days, almost a week since the launch.

So we had time to digest the information, look at it, appreciate it, and then build questions, not just based on what we thought, but also the community.

And I keep away from comments apart from on our own YouTube videos, because you are actually very good and receptive.

The first episode went out within days of us getting the podcast out, and well, the following Saturday you will see part two and then part three to round everything out.

Then it's back to, well, reasonably normal broadcast.

But of course, we will also have the podcast that we recorded with Nicholas at Fears talking all about his QP or perpetual calendar watch and all of the things that went around it.

It is kind of a coming out for Fierce Watch Company because you gentlemen have created a, I dare to say, a spectacular haute horlogerie watch.

Because I've had the honor to see the prototype already quite a while ago and I kind of fell off my chair because you've launched the Brunswick Perpetual Calendar.

And how can it not be elegant since it's a fierce watch? But I want to salute you.

It's very difficult to create, design, and deliver a watch nowadays with something that's almost ancient.

And it seems this is now setting the tone with the trilogy.

And they say if you do things three times, it becomes a tradition.

So please walk us through the philosophy of the why for the Brunswick Perpetual Calendar.

Well, I mean, this year, 2026, is a huge year for Fears, being not only the 180th anniversary of my great, great, great grandfather, Edwin, first starting the business, but it's also the 10-year anniversary of my reestablishing Fears back in 2016.

My friend Jean-Pierre Fatini, who had been there much longer, was at the base of that department.

After all the classical pieces, the Calatravas, the 3940 Perpetual Calendar, and so on, there were classical round aesthetic harmonious pieces.

The essential thing, though, is overall balance.

A round watch can be more or less beautiful depending on whether it is truly well proportioned.

Ooh.

Terbion, perpetual calendar, minute repeater.

I'm

going to bin the Terbion.

Cause it's just obviously wildly expensive technology.

So I'm going to bin the tourbillon.

I'm going to consider the minute repeater and I'm going for the perpetual calendar because I really, really, really want a perpetual calendar.
