Perennial philosophy

Ecumenism, this idea that all the religions are the same, that as a category is laid down during this period in viewing that all religion needs to be abolished.

And that's occurring right now through the idea that they are all saying the same thing.

I can't remember if I raised this last time.

It's the concept of Sophia Perennis.

Perennial Wisdom.

You know, which is a subject matter that it's concerned primarily and essentially in first and last metaphysics.

He approached and ruled out the accommodations of Plato with the tradition of Christian Prisca Theologia of Marsilio Ficino.

In other words, Sophia Perennis, Perennial Philosophy.

If Gundling was right, then Renaissance Platonists were actually misled in their belief that Plato prefigured any Judeo-Christianity.

Beyond that, however, the roots of Spinozism should be looked for in a generic Platonic paradigm.

Every time.

Perennialism is taking over.

the Vatican.

Yeah.

All the world religions are basically just kind of versions of Christianity, but like in seed form, right? But then the Perennialists can say, well, why does it have to be Christianity? Wouldn't it more logically mean that there's a higher super religion that all the religions are just manifestations of? Why is Jesus the supreme teacher of this? In other words, the logic of the Perennialism comes to bite itself once you adopt it, because like Garaby shows critiquing Swinburne, there's no reason why this lowest common denominator monad can't point me to perennialism.

Why would I go with Swinburne versus Sedgwick's perennialism? There's nothing in the natural theology itself that can tell you that without just a bunch of ad hoc rescues and assumptions.

I think that's it, yeah.

And a primordial wisdom religion that lies behind the public religions of humanity.

All right.

And that idea, I was just glancing at some of what perennialism is, perennial philosophy.

It goes back to sort of Neoplatonism and the Renaissance.

And by studying the history of things, you can construct that and return to it.

It's kind of similar and often conflated with the idea of Sophia Perennis, the perennial wisdom.

But the academics will actually, in some essays, and many academics treat these terms as the same in their papers.

So that can be confusing.

But some of my favorite academics draw the distinction between Prisca Theologia as the desire to piece together the original wisdom from the fragments that have come down to us, versus Sophia Perennis, which is this idea of a singular, eternal, original wisdom that moves through all these things and just needs to be identified.

So there are two ways of sort of...
