And they say, where is my tax dollars? going on polls you've heard me say this many times before but I'll say it again I mean it is kind of obviously just a snapshot they're only a
Brendan O'ConnorHOST
24:18
snapshot no no
Gary MurphyPANELIST
24:20
but it's an important snapshot because we get we get polls like this and then at general election time and certainly for the last four five general elections in a row housing and health have been the two issues where people come out of the polling station they're asked by pollsters you know what was your number one choice and they say things like health or housing sometimes then they say party affiliation and like on Fianna Fáil or Fianna Gael or People Before Profit or Sinn Féin or whatever but certainly I do think there is a trend and I've seen it I think over the course of the last year with budget last year there's a very good piece by Megan O'Brien in the Business Post where it says that from within government last year's budget fell flat and we want to This will not fall flat to be sort of newsworthy for the right reasons.

The, the job at moments of peril and when communities are in, um, severe distress as the community of Garvaghy Road have been for the past number of days, is to show leadership and to provide leadership, and that's what Michelle O'Neill and Sinn Féin representatives, but not only Sinn Féin representatives, did over the weekend.
Matt CarthyGUEST
0:53
We, we also had representatives from the SDLP, from People Before Profit, from into, from the Social Democrats, who quite rightly, um, stood up for a community's right, uh, given under the Good Friday Agreement, to live free from sectarian harassment.
Matt CarthyGUEST
1:12
Um, the decision of the Parades Commission is just illogical, and any rational person would have known that it would have opened up old wounds-

And I don't think as a teenager in the 90s that I thought that I would be covering this again as a middle-aged journalist.
Amanda FergusonGUEST
3:06
And I think that the parties need to step back a little from some of their utterances because it's very clear that Sinn Féin, the SDLP and People Before Profit and other elected reps felt it was their duty to go to the Grafahy Road, make representations on behalf of that community, observe what was happening, reduce tensions and so on.
Amanda FergusonGUEST
3:28
And I think Clare Hannah said this morning that what was being suggested around the legality of whether they were there or not was a smear.
Amanda FergusonGUEST
